Title: HPA bottle - 90 degree fitting on fill nipple
Post by: BigTinBoat on November 02, 2014, 01:18:00 AM
I just picked up a Hammerli 850. I have several 9oz CO2 bottles for summer use. I also have 2 HPA bottle for winter. What I would like to do is "easily" be able to switch from CO2 to HPA and back. Problem is that the HPA bottle will not screw into the adapter with the fill nipple in the regulator. This necessitates removing all the air from the bottle, removing the nipple, putting the bottle on, re-installing the nipple and then pumping the bottle back up from zero.
I was thinking that a 90 degree (elbow) 1/8"NPT fitting would solve this problem. Anybody see an issue with putting one of these fittings on? as long as it's rated for 3K PSI

Thoughts?

As long as its rated for the working pressures, it won't be an issue.

Do you have a picture of the tank interference to the gun? There are some Paintball fill nipples that are a bit smaller overall profile that may work for you.

Can't take a pic as the stock is in the way also right now, so I can't screw the bottle in. I am getting a paintball valve extender and then I could take pic, but both my Ninja and PE Reactor reg miss by about a 1/4". The gauge just barely clears to give you an idea.

This is the elbow I'm getting. The catalog shows it as 6000PSI rated. Have to order it though so should be here when the extender arrives also.

If the reg extender gets you the distance you need I would go that route first.

You could always run a tank remote, and move the bottle to a belt pouch and a hose to the air receiver.

I am not real familiar with the gun you are using. I am mostly a Paintball guy.

Well I have got to do both, extender and move nipple. The extender will get the nipple and gauge out of the stock, and the 90 is so the nipple doesn't hit the barrel when spinning it on.
Here is the same gun.

If the bottle were 3/4" more towards the muzzle you can see the gauge and nipple would not be "inside" the stock. It's hard to see in this pic but there is about 1/4" clearance between the bottle and barrel. The nipple sticks out about 3/8".

WOW - that is a short nipple. It very well might work. When I was looking for a shorter one I never found this one. Thanks for the help!
It's a bit more then the elbows at $9.95 as opposed to $2.20, but definitely a viable option if the elbow doesn't work.
