I had a xs b3-1 in .177 that I had for over 15 years and unfortunately it was stolen (joke was on the thief when he found out it was just an airgun). I spent the past year and half searching the web for a replacement but have only seen a few go on auction sites such as gunbroker for over $200! now I see that mrodair has both .177 and .22 and I am going to order one in a few days but I am leaning towards a .22 for shooting rats and a few birds that are pooping all over my back patio, will the .22 be enough wallop in the low 500's to humanely dispatch said critters? or will the .177 with heavy pellets do the job? my mind is made up on buying the gun it is just a question of which caliber

Get the .22 - I have the undercocking B3-1s in .177 and .22 both tuned and the .22 makes a much bigger hit on my metal swinging target. I may pickup a B5 too for .177 though for plinking - looks nice!
