...To mount on my new baby - LGV.
Ridiculous of me, I know, but I just had to share my excitement. (Don't tell the wife I ordered it... you can tell yours, just not mine).
-
I tell my woman nothing!!!! You will like it. I had a 4x12 on a Marauder and It was very nice.
-
OK... cancelled the 4-16 and decided to go with the 6-24x44 AO Varmint Rifle Scope. A gentleman at the range today talked me into a higher magnification (though that wasn't his intent).
-
i really like the extra mag over the 4-16 i had , and the half mil-dot is nice to . eye placement is critical at higher mags , but i adjust the scopes position at highest power to my eye location with the most comfortable cheek weld to me and it's no biggie . and of course i love the side focus !
-
Nice scopes for the coin !!
Tho not in agreement on high magnification for a spring rifle of the LGV's power.
-
Yeah.. I'm sure it's a little more scope than the gun itself 'needs', and I have no delusions that I'll be shooting out to 100 yards and keeping a nice group.
But I have already put her through some paces at 50 yards Iin 15mph winds)with promising results. I really felt that with more magnification that I could have tightened up the group a bunch. I'm also expecting it will help me cheat at the closer ranges a lot.
-
The Varmint is a real nice scope. I have four different Hawke scopes and the 6-24x44 AO Varmint is my favorite. Did you buy it from budsgunshop.com? They are selling the Varmint 6-24x44 for $138.
D14Jeff posted this in another thread.

No.. I ordered from Amazon for like $209... where's that cancel button!!
-
If you contact amazon they will most likely match the price if not amazon will refund your money with out a problem. I bought one after seeing the price on Buds Gun Shop. Shipping was $11. They will not last at under $150 shipped.
-
Amazon cancellation requested... and order placed with budsgunshop.com.
-
The scope arrived today - it's mounted, but I was unable to shoot the gun. D'oh!!! It looks really nice, I'll say that. 24 power zoom... I can't wait!
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance.
-
I have this on a Mrod 22. A real nice scope especially for $150 delivered. A couple of guys complained at full 24x magnification it gets blurry. 24 magnification is overkill for 99% of air guns. Let me know what you think after you try it out.
-
I was able to get a little shooting in. At 24x I didn't notice any blur on my scope. I've never shot with such high magnification. On the one hand it's a lot easier to 'aim small'. On the other hand, my shakiness (pulse) is really much more noticeable now.
But so far I'm loving it.

May I advise you to leave the $209 and switch the order to the 6x24x50 Hawke Eclipse. They are discontinued and if it fails they replace with the Endurance, one step down from the Sidewinder, their top of the line.(as was the Eclipse before being replaced).

I appreciate the advice, but I already ordered and received my varmint 6-24X44 for under $150 from BudsGunShop.com - very fast delivery. So far I'm really liking it.

The trick is getting a better one then the one you had before right?

Mine doesn't have any blur either. Bench shooting with 24x magnification makes it hard to miss when the rifle is shooting properly. It took a little practice/getting used to for me but now I would not trade the Varmint.

The Varmint weights 18 oz. How much does the Eclipse weigh and cost?
-
Well if you are shooting off a bench, then weight is not an issue. I think it is reasonable to expect for an upper line scope from the same manufacturer to weigh more then a lower line. The glass is heavier and the tubes longer in some cases.
If the upper line scopes didn't cost more then no one would buy the mid or lower level scopes. I was fortunate to snag the 2 Eclipses I found for $209. One from AOA and one from Amazon.
I don't shoot mine on full 24x. Even at 100 yards 20 or 22x seem to look the best.

Most of my shooting is with a tripod, not as stable as a bench. I was asking about the cost and weight of the Eclipse because I couldn't find it. The Endurance scope replaced the Eclipse?

Oh, OK, this is the link where I bought my last one, but the $209 turned into $299, bummer.

I got one of those at $209. I haven't mounted it yet, but hope I didn't make a mistake.

I have two. Doubt I would have bought the 2nd one if I didn't like the first.
Considibly better then my UTG Accursahot Swat Side Wheel 4x16x40.
To me it is a very good scope for the $$.

Lol Jeff...
This is the first scope that I'll have had that is over 12x. I'm in for a surprise I think.
-
there was a big difference going from 16x to 24x to me , so 12 to 24 is kinda huge . at those higher mags eye placement is critical . if i don't have my eye right at 20x + it will blur and can go black . but if my eye is right it's nice and clear to me . but i've never looked through a leupold or other high end high dollar scope .... and i don't want too . i cant afford to know what i'm missing hehehehe .
i think you did like me and hit SWFA for their %110 guarantee ...... gotta love that ;)

Mine arrived yesterday.. $147 shipped.. Looking forward to the next nice day that I can try it on the Brocock. I paid $220 shipped for the Varmint 6-24x44 on my Mrod. The Panorama($150 used) was working fine on the Brocock but a thank you is in order. Thanks Jeff.. enabler..

just passing on what was done to me .

I had a bad experience with a $140 Aimsport scope from Amazon.6x24x50
It would not show anything unless it was high noon. So a CP 4x16x40 turned out to be much better over all glass.

Anybody had any blurriness issues at high magnification? I will be using it mostly at 6x for hunting, but I'd like to crank it up to 24x for long range plinking and still have clear glass.
-

So far I haven't had any blurriness issues with this Hawke 6-24X44. I've kept it at 24x now, and everything is nice and clear. I've been shooting at 20-ish yards and 45 yards.
-
That's pretty awesome! How are you liking it on the LGV? The Disco I am going to put the Varmint on weighs three pounds less than your LGV. I'm worried it will be way too top heavy.
-
I'm loving it. I won't lie.. the LGV is a heavy gun and if I were shooting off hand...well I'll need to get back into weight lifting before I consider doing that. :)
From the bench, though...The high magnification makes my movements so obvious that it helps me focus on my form, breathing, relaxing etc. Not to say that lower magnifications can't do that, but with this scope and this gun there's no blaming anything but me when groups aren't under a dime.
