Title: I had a PCP plan last year!! but Im a springer guy at heart
Post by: gard72977 on October 21, 2014, 01:19:47 AM
I was looking at some of my old post and found this post from November of last year.

Lets start by saying I am very green in the airgun world. I recently bought a RWS 350 magnum 177 and love it. I really enjoy being able to go behind the house and shoot 1/10 scale silhouette. I would like to move into PCP but I want a plan that ends with the correct equipment and gun without rebuying everything.

Im wanting a high end FX but don't have the 4k to flop down on the gun, scope, and support equipment. So here is the plan.

1. Discovery in .177 straight from Crossman with the 20%off coupon. around 220 to the door (currently out of stock)      220.00
2. FX or Hill pump. (at this point I am shooting)                                                                                                          300.00
3 .Scope (high end scope for FX)                                                                                                                                500.00
4. Carbon fiber SCBA tank ( not sure I can get it filled to 4500 but Im sure I can get it to 3000                                       600.00
5. FX gun of choice   ( I want a regulator)                                                                                                                  2000.00
6. Freedom 8 Compressor                                                                                                                                        1100.00

Looking at it that is quite a lot for shooting behind the house. You just cant put a price on fun! The only thing I could change is to go with a cheap aluminum tank until I get the FX and put the carbon fiber tank as the last purchase.  That would help me get the FX sooner.

I don't have a lot of money but would I can sell some of my hobby stuff and buy this a little at a time and have what I really want by this time next year. There may be a deal on a used FX that comes up and saves some money. I really don't want the discovery but it allows me to start buying support equipment and put it to use while I save the money for the FX.  Any Ideas on this plan before I pull the trigger on the discovery. The hard part will be not spending money on mods for the discovery.

From your profile picture I can see that you have some sort of 22xx/13xx. My guess is that you get hooked on the Disco platform. It's somewhere in between the 22xx/13xx and Ruger 10/22...

Well I did buy a Marauder and a FX pump. Then  Crosman 1700 and upgraded to 1701 trigger with a EoTech. Kept the Marauder for a month or two and sold it. I bought a HW 77 and the springer Obsession was started!  Funny how things change. I may buy another PCP to hunt with but I love my springers.

Have you looked at renting nitrogen cylinders? Tons of fills and no moisture. The supplier would deliver right to your door.

I'm finding myself shooting my springers more than my PCP's. For my PCP's I use a hand pump and find I'm pumping more than shooting. I do love my PCP's and never would sell them.... I just find the springers more convenient. JMO

JimL911 mentioned renting nitrogen cylinders - Has anyone here looked into that?  Sounds like a good idea if it is affordable.
