Sorry I can't help you any...
But I look forward to hearing any tips that are shared.
(I've just recently started trying to find out about such things ;))
what gun are you going to use?
Have fun :D

i'm most likely going to shoot a co2 rifle i made. if i can get my chinese co2 rifle up and running i might use that. both very accurate, but co2 has issues when cold. i ordered some battery powered insole type warmers, see what happens. i practiced this past sunday to 55yards and it was only 50* outside. used the chemical handwarmers, but they didn't heat anything.  did ok, but it was so slow that the wind easily knocked the pellets off course. it could still drop the targets though. 5 mil-dot holdover at 50* at 55yards. probably half that at 60-65 degrees.

just have to be prepared for anything when game day comes. ave temps for the area at that time of year are about 58-60.

if you're close you can go as a guest.

Suggestions ....

Practice !!
Shooting how you will at the match ( Bucket or stool, Bipod & Gun )
Figure out NOW how to best position yourself for minimal motion when settled in for the shot.
Get your technique of rifle hold breaking the shot and following threw to give you the best accuracy potential.

Now vary your practice distances on differing target sizes ( Simple Felt pen CIRCLES drawn along Coins 1/2 to 2" diameter ) on a piece of paper or cardboard allow you to see how badly your missing  :P or how well your doing getting inside the drawn circle  ;D

Did I mention PRACTICE  :o

One more thing. have fun with it. I just try to do a little better then the last shoot. Did a shoot 2 weeks ago, and shot my best match ever. Shot 46/50, nobody was more surprised then me. The blind squirrel thing.

lol. i wish i had more time to practice, but i can shoot. i can shoot prone, but with alot of drama behind it, so i decided to a bucket/stool. and sticks. i ne ver shot off sticks and bucket. lol the comp is in 2 weeks. my sticks should be here today. i just got a new 3x12scope and i have a lid for a bucket..but my bucket is oo tall so i'm in search of a shorter one. but i have a little plastic stool that will suffice. i have to tape my side wheel and do accurate marks on it. hopefully i can get alot of practice in this weekend. i'm woefully prepared, but i have to check it out. i've wanted to try this for awhile. i have 7 gamo targets with reducers and a couple paper target stands so i'm good on some targets..i think my son has some rubber dinosaurs that need culled also.lol

thanks for the tips..did you say practice ?

Tom, hey you did pretty good ..ok real good.  i really just want to check it out. i better have fun, it's $75.00 entry fee. oh and a couple hundred for pellets a new scope /rings and all .there's alot things one could do with that money  for entertainment..lol. joking.

if i get half knocked down i'll be happy though. i'd been hesitant to spend big bucks on new rifles and carbon tanks pumps and such , cuz there's no place to compete usually, without driving 4-6 hours. if i really like it , it may make the drive  and big expense worth it.

thanks for the reply

KJ, besides practice - practice - practice, I shoot at 10-15-20-25-30-35-40-45-50-55 yards during the week before to create a cheat sheet of holdovers. I write them on a post-it and put it in a plastic protector for easy reference when setting up to shoot each target. In your case Id pick a standard distance, say 20 or 30 yards and shoot my co2 gun at different temperatures so Id have a notion as to how to tweek the hold overs at shoot time. You can shoot on the practice range at your standard distance and that will give you an idea of which temp. adjustment to use on your standard holdover numbers. It takes 3-4 competitions to develop the poise under pressure to function smoothly from sight in through the match. All well worth it though. Good Luck!

Hi John,
thanks for the invite, wish you all weren't so far, i bet it's a good time for sure. i'll definitely post up about my experience and thoughts. there are a couple guys going i've met and shot with over the years, and i'm hoping we can talk to the people at pyramid to see if they would help organize a regular club in the area since they're so close. i think it would be good for them and the sport .

thanks jeff. i have flags out at those exact distances. wish i could get over there more to practice. good idea on cheat sheets for different temps. i just wrote down what i remembered from the other days session at 50*. i really hope it's at least 60*lol.

have you ever shot off sticks ? i just got mine today . i'm hoping to get out tomorrow, but life may get in the way.lol. sunday is mine though. i suppose i can practice in my basement off sticks just to get more comfortable with it.

thank again

Kj, yes I use a seat and a bipod. I got a 10" high and a 12" high folding step stool from Home Depot. I use the 12" always. My HFT shooting to date has been an mrod .177. I cradle the gun on the air cylinder just forward of the stock. Rules prohibit attached support and also prohibit holding onto the bipod while shooting. This location is very stable for me and provides the longest distance from my shoulder. This distance means the least movement of POI with any movement of my posture.

we can't hold the bipod ? i thought i'd seen guys doing just that. glad you mentioned that. thanks.

are you going to be at the pyramid cup ? i may end up shooting some of the other types of comp as well.

I'm not sure about not holding the bi-pod thing. I hold the bi-pod and at least half the people I see shooting hold the bi-pod. Nothing is ever said about it.

Holding the bi-pod is legal ... Many with enough arm length to get a hand on Yoke with an elbow on the knee DO SO !! ( Those with Bi-pod out near end of fore-stock ) ..... Or if you yoke rifle in near trigger guard.

Exactly what you said Scott. I was using a full size bucket, and cut my trigger sticks down 4". This arrangement would not let me make good elbow to knee contact. I cut the bucket down to 10", and took another 4" off the sticks. What an improvement. My scores went up considerably. It made my shooting position a lot more stable. That and spending 2.5k pellets making my own range card. Chairgun is OK but is off a little, no matter how I manipulated the numbers.

Thanks Scott for the correction. I saw a photo on line where this labeled illegal. I couldn't discern any other feature which might be illegal except hand placement on the attachment and not on the stock. My bad. I need to remember to get confirming independent data before stating my observations as facts.
