I am thinking of getting an LDC for my new Hatsan AT44S-10 in .22. Who are your favorite makers / vendors for this item? Any idea what minimum length would be effective for the "short" version of the AT44? Any contact info you have for your favorite maker will be appreciated.
-
Me ... Lol
getting alignment correct is really tough unless you guide it over the barrel as well as thread it on.
-
Neil Clague, does great work, ;D
-
Well you know what they say. When you want something done right.
That being said, I make my own..
I don't think alignment is that difficult from muzzle to ldc exit, well at least not the way I do it
-
I reckon I should rephrase my question: Where do you recommend that I get an LDC?
-
If you want something that is going to be tried and true contact Hatsan about their QE upgrade for your at44
-
clague
-
Neil Clague... I have one of his Marauder LDC's, works like a charm!!
-
I like Anthony Story's LDCs but like someone said previously, the best possible route is probably an upgrade to QE. From my understanding it's also less expensive.
-
What does the QE upgrade consist of? I assume that since I already have purchased the AT44S-10 that the upgrade is some kind of add-on that I can buy from Hatsan? I have checked the HatsanUSA website but see no upgrade options available. I have contacted Hatsan but have not heard back from them.

The shroud, interals, labor and return shipping for $99.00. Email HatsanUSA service Service2@Hatsanusa.com

Thanks for that info, blackdiesel. Have you had this done to yours? Does it essentially turn the rifle into an AT44S-10 QE, with the same weight and dimensions?
-
I have not. I have a Anthony Story screw on LDC for my non QE rifle, but just ordered the upgrade. The screw on works great just adds another 8" to the lenght of the gun. According to HatsanUSA it does upgrade the rifle to QE.

Do you have contact info for Anthony? How much was his LDC?

The screw on I have is made by Anthony Story, it's 8" long with 5 baffles, very effective for noise reduction. I'm getting mine non QE upgraded so if you want to discuss, I will make you a good deal on the screw on.
-
I paid $115 for it. He's making a LDC for my Career 9mm now and he's pretty swamped but finished it in a little over 2 weeks. I will shoot you a PM.

Wow those are some great prices.
-
There's a Wolf Airguns in Poland that sells LDCs, I would advise to stay away from them. For every positive rating for their LDCs there's 10 negative ones.

Roy Kasten.

Norman, this is season #2 for my "Shroud". When I installed it a year ago, the POI was not changed. I hunt with it; and it does get bumped now and again - no problems so far. It quieted the Discovery nicely. Yes, the price is right too.

Do they make LDCs for any rifles or just the Crodman rifles listed on the site?
-
TKO made an LDC for my Brocock Concept 22, the rifle is now backyard friendly without effecting accuracy. Mike at TKO is reasonable and stands behind what he sells.

Kevin, A.C. Custom Mods would be my 1st call if an LDC was needed.
Thanks for the link..
-
Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen, and thanks Mike for the link to AC Custom Mods. Thanks ancient1one for the ACCM recommendation as well. I just emailed them. Great price!
-
Update: This is the email I just received from Alejandro at AC Custom Mods:
Hello Kevin,
I don't make shrouds that are threaded. I only offer them for the crosman 7/16th barrels.
Thank you,
Alejandro C.
A.C.CustomParts
So it seems to rule out his shrouds as a possibility for the Hatsan AT44. Unless someone has found a way to adapt them to a 1/2 inch thread.. Looks like I'll be going with a TKO.

Let me ask this . . .
Do you guys really think that using a EUPHEMISM, like "LDC", actually keeps you "under the radar" about what these units actually are ?
No one, especially the various "Agencies", is that stupid and I bet they get a good "chuckle" every time they read all of these Forums that they monitor on a regular basis !
-
It is more to comply with the rules of the Forum that we use LDC, Shroud, Moderator, etc. If you are interested, you might see Rule 12 ---> http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=919.msg6662#msg6662 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=919.msg6662#msg6662)

Yeah, I've seen that . . . Hope the Owner / Moderators aren't deluded into thinking that "code-speak" for certain devices somehow "excludes" them from the regulations.

I have been hunting (and fishing) long enough to have "encountered" quite a few WLF Officers in the woods and on the waters. ALL have been professional and very fair with me. I have never paid a fine; not even the time I received a citation and went to court for not having my hunting license in my possession. These Officers are people just like you and me; and if treated with the respect they deserve, will respond in kind. <--- IMHO derived from real life experiences.
I don't see how the Forum is doing anything wrong by refusing to use the actual NAME of the unmentionable item. Dance around the word and not get burned like warming yourself at a fireplace. Just keep your distance and all is fine.

Hey SpringerMan,
The Authorities botched 911 with their poor research of valid threats to our fellow countrymen :o
Maybe they were spending too much time monitoring Airgun Gun Websites ;)
Regular US citizens likely can't imagine what the government does on surveillance. Hence, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over this! :P
My Two Cents..........................
-
There is no federal law regarding LDC's on air guns. also they do not take the same view about airguns as City or State. When ever I use mine it is most likely on federal rather then city or state for that reason. Infact you can use one on a firearm for hunting if it is registered with the FEDs, and a fee is paid.
-
Not a big deal. When I first joined the GTA forum I used a word that was frowned upon. I hunted a bird that was iffy. Members contacted me explaining the rules and it was over.
A lot of people learn about air guns on GTA. How to make them better, quieter, hunt with them, maintenance and many other things air gun. If the people running GTA do not want that word used don't use it. Let it go.
-
I know this is a much-debated topic on air gun forums but my feeling is that if LDC's for air guns were regarded by fed and state as flat-out illegal then the many folks making them would not dare make them and the hundreds/thousands of folks using them would already be in big trouble and spreading the word..

Exactly including airgun manufacturers.....
-
Yes except that manufacturers make air guns with permanent barrel shrouds and permanently attached sound moderator units, not stand-alone LDC's..

not true Hatsans come off. So does the Fx and others
-
Thanks for the correction. I always assumed they were permanently attached - now I know...

The "problem" with the potential Fed Class III Weapon status comes when a "curler tube" is removable and constructed in a manner robust enough to withstand use on a firearm, especially if the threads are 1/2-20 UNF, which is the "standard" for screw-on firearm accessories, such as a Flash Hider on an AR-15. In that case, the "dust flute" is considered to be a Class III weapon by itself, and subject to Federal ATF regulation.
On air rifles like the STOEGER X20S, the "apparatus" is permanently attached and constructed of relatively flimsy plastic, which is OK under the definition of an "LDC"...

Yes I can see where the lines can be blurred into the Class lll status. Fortunately with regards to these devices for air guns, the authorities do seem to be able to make the distinction, or there would be a lot of individuals and companies in trouble. I am glad they are not.
