Title: Filling bottle to test regulator
Post by: BigTinBoat on September 30, 2014, 07:10:13 AM
While I was filling a 68ci bottle to test the regulator that I am trying to set at 2000PSI (to use for field filling my Disco) I was thinking about the .25CI "test tank" that Jason had built. http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=73635.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=73635.0)

Not having the ability to build such a tank I thought about ways to make pump testing easier. What about filling the tank like 90% full with "BB's" or Water maybe? or something else? Would this work? Would it cause any problems with the regulator after it's empty? Sure would take a lot less pumping.

Filling the tank from 2000 to 3000 shouldn't be too hard, but filling from empty to 2000 sure take a bunch of strokes.....especially if I have to do it 3 or 4 times.

What says the experts?

I wouldn't want to take a chance of getting water in the regulator.  BB's or whatever would be extra shrapnel should something go wrong.

Does Tim @ Mac1 sell a tiny regulator "test tank"?.... I thought I saw something like that in his Vendor gate.... maybe ask him?.... (or I could be dreaming)

He sells a "tester" (gauge for output), but that's all I've seen on his site.

ahhhhhh.... then find somebody with a lathe that can drill and tap a 5/8"-18 NF hole in a piece of 1" CRS and machine a recess for the O-ring....

So I guess that means no go on the fill with other substance?

Actually, filling the tank with BBs would probably work just fine, provided they were clean and free of oil.... I can't see a problem with it.... also, use the smallest tank you can get (13 CI)....

OK, I have a 13 maybe I'll clean up some BB's and give it a try. Thanks Bob
