Title: Crosman 760 variant 1 disassembly
Post by: ddm on September 23, 2014, 06:50:15 PM
Has anyone out there disassembled a Crosman 760 variant 1 lately?  In process of rebuilding an old 760, disassembled it yesterday with no major mechanical issues. I also want to refinish the wood stock and foregrip but I can't get the foregrip off of the piston arm.   Piston arm is  pinned inside of wood foregrip with two small pins.  Problem is the pins only go all the way through one side of the wood grip.  Didn't see anything about this in manual.  Watched all of the u-tube videos on 760 disassembly I could find, but only one mentioned foregrip with a statement to "drive out the pins" plus his 760 looked to be a variant 2. How do I drive out pins that appear to need to be pulled somehow?  I've removed piston itself from arm so that all I still have attached to inside of foregrip is the two piece arm. I could always tape the metal up and refinish wood with the arm attached but would rather get it safely out of the way. Any and all input will be appreciated.

Yep, roll pins hold the grip in place. Get a pin punch the same size as the hole. Carefully (no sledge hammering) drive the pins out. I would rest the grip on top of a pair of 2x4 pieces so the path of the pin will not hit the wood or your bench.

The procedure is the same as the 140/1400 rifles.    Using a small bit, drill through the fore end using the pins as a guide, then using an 1/8" bit drill back to the pins, then punch them out.

I have refinished many 760 forearms, both with and without the arm attached.  I prefer leaving the arm attached since it is less work and you don't risk cracking the wood.

Thanks for the advice guys.  Funny how problems seem pretty simple after someone else tells you how to solve'em.
