Title: 500 dollar budget what to do
Post by: cali shooter on September 11, 2014, 09:02:13 PM
Okay so i still haven't ordered a new a gun, right when I'm about to buy something always comes up or i change my mind. Right now I'm leaning toward the hatsan 135 but also still open minded about looking at the model 95 and some rws rifles too. Since i haven't bought anything yet I've got about a 500 dollar budget I'm not saying I'm going to spend all of it but I'm willing too if i really like the look of something. Im looking into scopes and modded springs and gas pistons as well. I'm just wondering what would you do in my situation and whats the best for my buck. That being said i will be primarily hunting or at least any gun i get should be capable and i do kinda have my heart set on 22 cal
thanks
Jay

I use to recommend the D-34, but now I will suggest the rifle I want next. The R9/HW95.

Does the $500 budget include the scope? If not, I would suggest an R9 .20.

I had a $500 budget also. I did a lot of research and shopping and ended up with a .22 disco and all the support equipment. I have added some goodys but did most of it on the cheap'

If it were me and I could find an R9 from one of the experts here that had already invested a lot of time in tuning it and could get it at a fair price I would go with that, especially if I didn't expect to get into tuning an AG.
My patience wore out before one came up so I "settled" for the Hatsan 95 with Vortex, but not before I got it at a great price ($159).
I will eventually learn more about tuning though and I think this gun has all the potential I was looking for. I am very well pleased with my Hatsan and never expected to get so much for so little! I'm already able to free-hand a 2" gong at 35 yards consistently using only sights, this with less than half a tin of practice.
It feels nice to be able to put a little more into my scope system if I decide to. I'll probably wind up doing the same thing with the scope, "settling" for a Hawke Sport instead of an AirMax or Panorama. But, I'll be plenty happy cause my "stuff" will be on the receiving end. Watch out varmints!

An R9/HW95 is the way I would go if spending $375 - $400. I bought a refurb 34 Compact from AGD for $169 with an RWS scope included. The best money I have spent on any air gun. If you want to spend less than $200 an AGD refurb 34 is your best bet.

AoA is selling the HW95 for $405 shipped, that is a real nice air gun. You can shoot it with the iron sights or buy a Hawke Sport HD 3-9x40AO for $75 also from AoA. For $480 shipped you have a nice set up..

Im not sure if the 350 comes with a t05 or t06 trigger. Calling AoA is the best way to find out and to order if you want one. 480 461 1113.

BSA Lightening XL SE  is a great rifle at around $370 which gives you wiggle room on your budget.  Fine rifle that.

Diana RWS Model 34 is a great little rifle.  It will kill small game all day long and won't break the bank at around $280 there is plenty of wiggle room in that budget for a good bit of glass and a proper case plus some pellets.

both those guns are great but i worry they don't have enough knock down power and range at around 15fpe but that being said sounding like a power junky i care more about accuracy and durability and i guess upgrade capability too i wish i could try these gun before i bought them if i knew i really like one that stood out i wouldn't mind paying any amount and range is important tooooo

The Benjamin Trail NP XL has the juice.  Check out the video reviews of it on YouTube.  That thing is shooting in the 23 to 25 FPE range.  You might need to do a trigger tune on it but still leaves wiggle room in the budget.

After buying and selling air guns for years, my early days of air gunning come to mind with your question. Of course hind sight is always 20/20, or is it?? When I bought my first air gun as an adult without thinking of the air gun I had as a kid, I received the advice of "buy as much gun as you can", something like buying a first house "buy as much house as you can". As I think of the Daisy Powerline 1000, I wish I had taken that advice. But then again, if I had maybe I wouldn't have taken the course I did. It goes to the change a pebble on the beach and change the whole world. The Powerline caused me to look into trying to change the trigger pull which of course brought me to tear it down which caused me to have the questions I had, to do research for answers. As a result, I have been doing tunes for years. Of course that caused me to buy A LOT of air guns so I could see how they were built and the differences of each before I attempted to help someone else. So as a result, whichever trail you take, will have it's own victories and defeats. So I guess MY answer to you is, it's up to you!!!! My trail has led me to meet some awesome people, learn more about mechanical devices and added a new dimension to my life. Good luck with your decision and which ever way you go, ENJOY!!! Have a great day - Lee

The RWS 350 is one of the more powerful springers but most are hold sensitive. If you want quality, upgrade-ability and accuracy look at the HW95 or RWS 34. Both can be hold sensitive but less likely and both are lighter.

The LVG Challenger(15 FPE) is on sale at AOA for $299. The LGV is a $500 gun with great reviews. The RWS 350 Magnum at $250 is also a great deal but for that price comes in a .177. Do some research and think about what your needs are but more important buy an AG that your going to enjoy using.

I got in late, but Airgun Depot will have some refurbished Diana 48 up for sale. This rifle, with good Leapers Accushot series, in 10x or 3-12x SWAT glass etched scope, and UTG droop compensator mount will all fit in your budget.

Let us know how the Bugbuster holds up after a while.  That's a lotta power on that scope.  Maybe the heavy weight will help out.  Let us know OK?  ;)
