I bought the high Accushot scope rings for my Hatsan BT65 to mount my Hawke 40mm scope which required me to remove my rear sight anyway. My question is, should I order shorter scope rings? Is a shorter mount any better? I have a bit more than 1/4" clearance. I have googled it and can't find the difference in height between high, medium, and low mounts.

There is no specific fixed difference between high, medium, and low mounts. One manufacturer's medium mount may be another's high. As a general rule, the closer the center of the scope is to the center of the barrel the better. That permits the line of sight to be closer to the trajectory of the projectile. Since the scope sits above the barrel it must "look" down to see the same thing the barrel does. The closer it is to the barrel the less downward tilt. Objects close to the muzzle would require a very great downward angle. The more distant the object the less the downward tilt.
That's a lot of words to say closer is better.

You can drop to the Accushot medium height ring, from Leapers/UTG, and it'll handle the 40mm scope. Why not go directly to the Leaper's website, and get the specs on the scoperings? They are illustrated for each scopering you select. HTH.

As well as getting the scope close to the bore, I also find it usually easier to get a better cheek weld with shorter rings.
I went from high to medium on my marauder with UTG 3-12x44, it just barely clears it, but it does.

I figured it was a standard measurement and was only researching "scope ring heights" which didn't yield anything helpful (obviously).
So I went to the Leapers website and compared the medium and high and there is a 7mm height difference. It will be very close with the way I have it mounted now but I can always move the scope forward and it should clear fine. Paid a little extra for delivery tomorrow from Amazon, hoping to get some shooting in this weekend.
