Title: Accuracy - Benjamin/Crosman vs. Gamo
Post by: Marc on August 26, 2014, 10:43:41 PM
I hear a lot of stories of guys fighting to get good accuracy from Benji/Crosman break barrels - but seems not so much from Gamos?

Are Gamo's more accurate than the Crosman guns in general?

You are asking about two lower quality manufacturers, each with their own issues. If you are looking for accuracy out of the box, and a better chance of frustration free shooting, try something German. You will spend a little more initially but be money ahead in the long run. crosman/benjamin break barrels have an abysmal record for out of the box shootability and function. I've had one; that was enough, tk

;D I have a Gamo Whisper not a bad rifle after I did a home lube tune and CDT 4G trigger now it is quite good . Just keep in mind that the break barrels are a little more difficult to master than an under or side lever rifle

I have a Gamo Shadow 1000 which is as cheap as it gets, it had some accuracy right out of the box, but got deadly accurate after a full tune.

I am pretty new here....I currently have 3 Gamo rifles two old a 440 and the other model I don't remember, the new is a whisper IGT.  All of them shoot pretty darn well, but the new Silent stalker is super accurate and a joy to shoot.  A bit hard to keep a scope on it, but shooting with iron sites it is really a great rifle that I do enjoy....now to get a scope to stay on the silly thing.

I think in general Crosman and Gamo are about the same.

I must agree that out of the box they need work.  But that is why I purchased them really, lower cost and to tinker with. My Gamo with new trigger shoots really well out to 40 yards, working on my Crosman now, trigger is in playing with making the right washers for the barrel, but is working well.  The scope screws all must be locked down with a thread lock, I use the blue lock-tite.
And the type of scope must be air gun approved.

I think both brands are some of the better chinese made rifles. I tend to favor Benjamin over Gamo, in every aspect, but that's just me.

Gamos are made in Spain not China.  All my Gamos  shot well out of the box but considerably better after tuning.  I had one Silent Stalker that had a cocking shoe rub that was easily corrected.  I seems that Gamo may have fewer out of the box issues but Crosman sells in much larger numbers so who knows for sure.  I believe the fit and finish is better than Crosman but they are of very different construction and not easily compared.

My bad, Gamos are made in Spain, what's funny is how you can't tell the difference in quality, or at least I can't. I still prefer Benjis though... ;D
