Title: Scope recommendation for a Hammerli Nova underlever
Post by: nitinmehra20 on July 25, 2010, 02:46:46 PM
Hi All,

This gun is my first foray into the Airgun world. I have bought the gun off of airgundaily for 200 bucks and am now looking for a scope for the same.

Can someone recommend me a decent scope for this rifle?

I thank you guys for sharing your expertise :)

Congrats on your new rifle.  As far as recommending a scope it would help to know what your primary use of the rifle is going to be.... hunting ??  target shooting ??  both  ???  Also, what is your price range for the scope ?   With that info it'll be much easier to recommend a scope.

That being said.... a decent "all around" scope that will perform well for target shooting as well as small game hunting and pest control is the Leapers 3x9x32 Adjustable Objective scope that www.opticsplanet.com (http://www.opticsplanet.com) sells for around $50 bucks with shipping included.  I have quite a few of these scopes and they've all held up great and performed well.

I'm sure others will chime in with their suggestions.....

Jeff

Hey Jeff!!

Thanks for responding.... yes! My main use will be for target shooting. Hunting not so much (problem of staying in a planned community, HOA!) That being said, I don't want to omit hunting completely considering I am WA state.

Regarding spending on a scope, 50-80 bucks is my budget :)

Hope this helps...

The Nova is a rifle that I have been curious about. I don't know much about it but it sure is pretty. Please let use know how you like it. With a cocking effort of 36 lbs. I'm guessing that it has some kick so make sure that whatever you choose can handle it. In your price range I like the Centerpoint Adventure Class 4-16x40AO with illuminated reticle. This scope currently resides on my "go to rifle", the RWS 34 Panther and has performed extremely well. At 18.8 ounces it is light for a 4-16x40, it has 3.9 inches of eye relief, and is adjustable down to 5 yards. Also, the adjusting turrets are a joy to use. I do agree with longislandhunter though, if you want something for under $50 I like the Leapers Golden Image 3-9x32AO. Make sure to use a 1 piece mount and most important, clean all the screws and screw holes on the mount with alcohol, use Blue Loctite on the screws and (here's the hardest part) let it cure over night before you shoot it.

Don't count my answer for too much.  But I have a Leapers 3-9x40 AO and I can't say
a bad thing about it.  Nicely made, quality product as far as I'm concerned.  I think you
will be happy with this.

Let us know your decision.

Good luck!

I am eagerly awaiting its delivery. Will let you know how I like it. Regarding the scope, did not wanted to spend too much on the first gun, hence I have gone with the 3-9X32 Leaper :)

One mistake I did was order independent scope rings instead of the the single piece :( Will that be a problem?

What scope rings did you order? Also, like I said, I don't know much about the Nova, what made you choose it?

This is the scope I got

http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-golden-image-3-9x32-full-size-a-o-range-estimating-mil-dot-scope-scp-392aomdt.html (http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-golden-image-3-9x32-full-size-a-o-range-estimating-mil-dot-scope-scp-392aomdt.html)

And these are the rings

Regarding the Nova, mostly I was looking for an affordable underlever and had my sights set on a Gamo CFX. But I read on the forums that Hammerli is an equally good rifle and very accurate, plus it has a pop-up breach as opposed to sliding one in Gamo. That coupled with the fact that I was getting it for 200 bucks, made me pull the trigger on this one.

Have I bought the wrong ones? :(

I have a Hawke Sport HD 2X7x32 AO That works well about $80.00
I too would like to know what you think about the Nova. looks like a TX200

Those are the rings I would buy if I were to buy a 2 piece mount. I prefer medium profile to high profile especially for a 32mm objective. One of the rings will have a stop pin, but I don't know if the scope rail on the Nova has a hole for it. From the picture on PA it looks like it has some sort of scope stop on the rail. It's even more important that you thoroughly clean ALL the screws, screw holes, and scope rail with alcohol and use Blue Loctite on the ALL the screws including the ones that hold the rings to the scope rail. Let it sit for at least 12 hours. Some have said 48 hours.
