The Umarex NXG-APx is a Multi-Stroke Pneumatic AirRifle (pumper) made in China (I assume from the branding that it is designed in Germany or maybe the USA).
Starting with the way it is constructed:
The Receiver housing, butt stock, and fore stock are made of a fairly thick plastic with a sturdy feel about it. The butt stock is firmly attached by inserting inside the main tube (what would be called the pump tube on a Crosman), the fore grips lock under the receiver housing. The pump handle is similar in appereance to the Daisy 880 or 22X, though not exact. The pump handle pivot point is attached to the pump tube in a manner similar to Crosman MSP's.
The barrel is a soda straw barrel that is held into place by a set screw on the valve body. The muzzle end of the barrel is secured in the end of the shroud by a pressure fit into the plastic that makes up the fake muzzle-break and front sight. The rifling seems to be good from a visual inspection.
The piston is made of a solid material, appears to be some hard resin, with a steel head. The head is flat and seals with a single O-Ring. The piston stroke is quite long for the size of the Rifle. The piston does have a felt wiper.
The hammer, hammer spring, and valve are all in the main tube that also forms the pump tube. I have not yet took anything out of the pump tube so I can not yet comment on these components directly.
Operation:
Like with the Daisy MSP's the Umarex NXG-APX requires to be cocked (by pulling the bolt back) before it will hold air. Once cocked it can be pumped from 2 to 10 times (as per manual) to build pressure for the desired power of shot. The automatic safety is engaged with the first opening of the pump leaver. Then a pellet is loaded by sliding it into the feed slot by simply sliding it into place, it is very easy to load (easier than any of my Crosman or Daisy single shot MSP's). Before firing the safety must be taken off by pressing forward on a button in the front inside of the trigger guard.
Shooting first impressions:
I have only taken my Umarex NXG-APX out for a single quick shooting sesion yesterday evening, though I did notice a bit about it:
This rifle is reasonable easy to pump (a bit stiffer than the Daisy 880, though a bit easier than the Crosman 760), extremely easy to load a pellet, seems to produce decent power (based on the reaction of the spinners I was shooting at), and is not to bad in the accuracy department.
The trigger is a bit stiff, though it is very consistent.
I will definitely be doing some mods to improve the accuracy a bit, as it is not quite up to par with my other (already modded) AirRifles.
Moddability:
There is some play to allow for modding.
- It looks like the trigger can be improved fairly easily.
- The barrel can be better stabilized.
- I have not yet determined what power mods can be done, I still need to get inside the pump tube before I can figure that out for sure.

Ok it is going to be interesting to get good accuracy out of the NXG-APX. I am not sure of why it is though this rifle is not responding to the normal tape barrel to fit mods.

The Umarex NXG-APX has one major flaw:
The roll pins are flanged on both ends so it is not possible to remove the roll pins with out damaging them and needing to replace them. This means that there is a good deal more work involved in removing the piston, pump linkage, and getting to the components inside of the tube, and reassembly after that would require new roll pins. So much for simple power mods :(, this rifle requires a bit more devotion to modify.

Thank you for the info on the NXG. It has a sleek look to it.

Can you just make one from a drill bit? That's what I did with the original roll pin on my 1389. I cut slots in a drill bit for "e" clips and then cut the bit off. Just put the bit in dremel and held a hacksaw blade to it while spinning it.

Yes you can make one in the same manner. Or use case hardened steel, same idea.

just picked one up from wally world today for around 40 something.. ( am a sucker for cheap multi-pump pneumatics. Kind of reminds me of modernized 880... is the barrel rifled? I mean i looked down the barrel with mine and put a light in it and it looks rifled but not nearly as rifled as my other air guns....

It is rifled, and I have finaly managed to get some decent acuracy out of mine :) .
In a couple of weeks I plan on making some roll pins for it and opening it up to see what can be done for power modifications. I do think that this rifle has some great potential.

Anything more on the Umarex NXG-APx?
I see BB's first 3 parts of a review but I'm wondering if GTA members have been testing lately.

I have not been spending much time with my Umarex NXG-APX because I have not felt like making new roll pins for it and as such have not opened it up for modification yet.

Thanks, David. I enjoy reading your posts about the various mods!

This is good info. I have one of these guns also. Best Regards - Tom
