Title: S510, to much hammer spring preload?
Post by: wasatch on August 02, 2014, 03:02:41 AM
My S510 carbine is shooting as pictured.  Does it look like there is to much hammer spring preload to get full strings on anything but high power?  As I turned the power adjuster down the max fps corresponds to higher pressure.  Would de-tuning the high power setting to give 30-32 fpe likely result in more shots on the lower power settings?

Do you have the stock spring in it? or any other power mod? Mine is shooting a max of 30 fpe, avg 28 fpe, 27 shots, with JSB'S 18.1 with stock spring, no mods.

Fred, here's my S500 on 80%. It looks like my fill pressure is lower than yours and I have more of a curve. You might try filling higher on your 4/5 setting. Maybe your gun gauge isn't reading correctly??

I haven't done any mods to my carbine and i was using the more accurate tank gauge when i shot the strings.  I filled to 205 bar for most of the strings.

I had an S410 rifle and it shot more like Jimmy's.

I don't think these guns have an adjustable hammer spring preload.

I'm thinking about sending it to PA for warranty repair.

I would agree that the shot strings other than the high power setting indicate too much hammer strike for the fill pressure used.... and a lighter pellet would normally only make that situation worse.... Decreasing the FPE by reducing preload would likely increase the shot count on all strings except the high power one, as you would start including more of the first part of the string.... However, the high power string may then require filling to a lower pressure....
