Title: Polymag feed issues
Post by: huggybear on July 28, 2014, 01:01:29 AM
I have been shooting the predator polymags for a while now and absolutely love them for taking out Nutria. I was previously using a break barrel and had no issues. Now the issue is when I load my rotary mag they tend to move around and jam up when I point the weapon towards the ground. Any reason I couldn't trim up the poly tip just a smidgen to keep them from jammin my jive?

You can try. It may effect your accuracy, though.

What I found is a bit of a bummer. The neck between the head and skirt is too shallow for the O-ring to keep the pellet from sliding back and forth. Bench rest shooting where the gun is level seems to work OK or even pointing upwards. Shooting at a target lower than yourself will actually let the pellet move forward enough to jam up and rip the polymer tip clean off when you try to cycle in the next round. Lame.

Sorry,
But just remove the red point and they fly straight as an arrow but are a bit
To light for my AT, she wont shoot anything under 18xx grains.

Good Luck,
Gator

What gun are you using? I've read a lot of threads in which Hatsan shooters report that very long pellets don't fit well in Hatsan magazines.

I use Polymags in my Hatsan Galation , they fit just about flush both sides of the mag and work well .

If your post was directed at me? Please note, I mentioned you simply remove the red tip. At least you don't waste an expensive tin of pellets.

Be Well,
Gator,

Good to know they will fit my Galation, (: ◆) }

I was asking the original poster.  I haven't used them but I have a Sumatra that will take the long pellets without a problem.  I think PA sent me 20 cal mags because I had trouble fitting the JSB monter pellets in it but that's because of width.  .

I am currently shooting the newish .22 QE. I really liked the polymags in my break barrel since they shot well and took down nutria with ease.

Ok. I've seen multiple threads by Hatsan shooters having problems with them being too long for the magazine.  There are some new metal tipped polymags, I may try them in the future: http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1387857929/New+metal+tipped+Polymag+METALMAG+in+.22+cal++-+also+.177 (http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1387857929/New+metal+tipped+Polymag+METALMAG+in+.22+cal++-+also+.177)

I have had success making a couple of shot trays for myself and a couple of members here on GTA. They have all been made for .25 caliber pellets, but have made it possible to load Polymags as well as other pellets that are too long to work with the stock magazine. I did try to make one for another member in .22 caliber by simply copying all the dimensions of the tray I've made in .25 caliber but boring the pellet hole to .22, the feedback I got was that there were other issues including the tray being too wide for the breech slot.
I've drawn up a picture to show the dimensions I need, I'd love to give it another shot at making a .22 cal. tray. If interested shoot me a pm with dimensions or any questions regarding the drawing, my skills in that department are limited. Also photo of .25 tray that works fine.

Another dimension I would need that's not on the picture is the distance from bottom of breech slot UP to centerline of bolt.

It's beyond me why Hatsan doesn't sell shot trays of their own or at least let the owner know in the manuals that pellets over a certain length will not work in the magazine.

It's not just Hatsan,
PA, when I bought my AT44, had the polymags listed right below it as a suggested pellet.

When I loaded up a clip and realized the problem, I called PA and they stepped up and sent me a couple tins of Kodiaks 21.xx which are my favorite for the AT under 35 yards,

I was going to send the Polys to my son, but the shipping costs did not make dollars and sense,

I may end up with another Galation in .22. So mean while they are in my pellet tub.

I do not use pollys in my Hatsans for the reason that they do not work or even if they did, I would still use  H&N Hunter Extreme, It has much better long range accuracy and solid knock down expansion. But I only use domes because they are the best in accuracy and distance. those pollys tips fall out or most are loose causing wobble and inaccuracy.
But if you just have to use them then here you go.

Thanks for that link, never in a million years would I have thought of that clothes pin tray. I'll have to try those hunter extreme pellets.

I think that you will be more happier with the Extremes
