looks like he wanted to ensure nothing was in the barrel, or show us that nothing was in there. could have used a dowel rod though
one dry fire is unlikely to cause serious damage, though one should try and avoid it.

Yep, he shore did. Expertise is just so over-rated. Sheesh.

yeppers....eventually mess up the seal doing that
-
He did dry fire it, but as long as he doesn't make it a regular practice it shouldn't damage the seal or piston.
Any way he's got the tools & know how to open it up, so he can change the seal or piston if he wrecks them easily enough as he can find spares

Guys. Just a tip for answer to the "what do I do now?" question, and it gets forgotten.
I'm not saying you personally don't know... but understand that many other folks that read our stuff here, don't know it:
Place and press (EDIT: lightly),the muzzle into a balled up rag, pillow, ...or even the carpet.
It'll give a minimal amount or resistance, and save "smashing" the piston seal against the wall.

Accidental dry fires are going to happen, it's inevitable. We never know which dry fire is going to cause damage. It's a roll of the dice. Dry fires are IMO, harder on the spring more than anything else. A generous layer of heavy tar on the spring is probably the best thing we can do for it's health. It takes alot of the damaging vibration out of it. I would avoid dry fires at all costs. Save them up for the accidental ones like when a loose pellet falls out when you're not looking.

Awhile back I was working on a loaded gun that wouldn't fire.........something was wrong with the safety/trigger setup.
Removed pellet from chamber and eventually got the gun to fire when trigger sear released.
Opened up gun and found that piston head was partially broken loose from piston body.
I'm not sure my lone dry fire caused ALL the damage to the piston head, but I will NEVER dry fire one of my guns again!
(Now, when having problems, I usually discharge my loaded guns into a cement wall.
-> Bullit - I will remember the rags trick ::)
My two cents.....................
