Title: Rainstorm 2 has arrived
Post by: WHITEFANG on July 03, 2014, 08:32:36 PM
Total different gun vs the refurb. Normal great packaging.
Nice redish wood and good grain.
Removed the shroud for ease of cleaning. Seems the other one was not correct. The brass centering device was bavkwards,; no o'ring to help center and dampen the barrel on the last one.
The gun took paper out of the box quite well. The thing is a beast. No chrony or screws turned. Just paper. The gun is super LOUD and has some recoil. It must be set up hot. Shooting jsb 18 for now.
Got a mag and a half down it yes the accuracy is there. Just to loud for not to shot in the backyard. Much louder the the WC prior to the ldc?
Nice gun and looks great. Mag set up is much better so far.
I got the light spring to de-tune the gun but as I said, just letting it shoot factory for now after the re furb.
Play time later.

Day 2:
Ldc on and now fairly backyard friendly.  Poi changed just ever so much. Chrony time. 8 shots and the gun is just above 150 bar from a 200 bar fill. Air hog? 2 mags was around  around 100 bar with 18 jsbs?

Sounds like the normal Korean set up. A steady down curve on power. Why remove the shroud to clean the barrel? Just use a straw in the end of the shroud. What caliber did you get?

.22. I remove it to make it easier and no possible baffle damage at all. I finish the cleaning with the bore snake without the brass incert. Plus I like to look at the crown. I have seen too many bad crowns and have to correct tooling to correct them.

You are going to love the RS II and the .22 is accurate, once you install the LDC  the depinger will become a necessity as the ping will become annoying  ;D ;D

Airg hog LOL.  The RS2 is a 55 fpe gun from the factory.  Run some Eunjin 28.5 gn pellets through it to experience the full RS experience.

You might be getting some supersonic crack with the JSB 18s, which might account for some of the noise.

As Tom said, you want some  28.4 grain Eun Jins. Those are great pellets for this gun. They will also use less air per shot.

^^^^  Yep.  Probably north of 1100 fps with a 18gn.

+1
Also, Baracuda Match 5.53s & they're more consistent in weight & form.

18gr pellets out of a Rainstorm are a bit of a waiste, 28.4gr EunJin is where it's at ;)

Got the hammer spring changed and now I have the gun setup for the cphps. Got it shooting them around 980-960 and fairly accurate.  I find the gun just a little hold sensitive shooting the lighter pellets. Part of that is I need to reset the trigger. The solf spring really change the trigger on the first stage.
Back yard friendly now. I really could remove my ldc now but I like the added nose weight for now.
This gun was set up hot from the factory. I made the mistake of not shooting it across the chrony prior to the spring change. This gun seems much different in the power vs my older Windy City. I believe they have upped the power from the early WC but they are 2 different guns in the feel in the hands.Same power plant and as I have told that the RS2 did have some upgrades vs the RS1.
We will see how long I leave the gun detuned?
Thanks

The RS II .25 has the power to take down fairly large game with a well placed head shot. When I lived in Conn. the professional pest control shooters were sometimes using a .22 cal pb to eliminate pest deer

Correct, I've taken several big Wild Boars with Rainstorms .22 and .25

There is no doubt that the RS II has the power in .22 to take game with a well placed shot.  I am really enjoying this gun even turned down. The 14.3s are super accurate now.
Ad long as the Windy City keeps shooting like it does I believe I will leave the RS tuned down.
If I want .25 power I have the Theoben mkII that is perfect in  that caliber.

Yeah, that's a great option on those Storms, Keep them at full power and shoot the 28.4gr EunJin like Hammers, tune them way down and shoot the 14.3gr cheap pellets, or go somewhere in between and shoot the 18gr JSB or 21gr Baracuda, they all are accurate.

and all done with a simple spring exchange :)

Go for it then. Pellets are mire in price and not ready available but the .20 and .25 are not either. Lol.
Still slinging the .20s with every shot a kill.
