I am planning to tune my Hatsan 125th with molly, de-burr, cleaning and new piston seal. Is it worth replacing the mainspring with a Vortek spring? I am looking to add power.
-
The answer is yes, in my opinion. You need a type 2 vortex gas piston though. I bought all my Hatsans with springs and converted them to gas pistons. My H155 was converted to a Crosman XL gp two years ago. It is still shooting as good as the first day of conversion. When it came in spring form, the recoil was jaw jarring with a heavy twang. Now the recoil has been completely tamed and NO MORE twang. My other H125 and H85 snipers have been converted to vortex gas pistons which I pumped them up to 115 bar of pressure. Fantastic shooters. You will not regret it if you replace the main spring with a gas ram.
-
Reducing the recoil and twang would be a bonus but I don't want to lose power. I thought the gas rams would lose slight FPE compared to the springs.
-
Not true. Springs degrade after a while. I had two Dianas which gave me fantastic mv after a spring change. After about 1500 shots, the mv dropped significantly. The beauty of the vortex gas pistons is you can adjust the pressure in the gas ram. I just pumped it to 115 bar but if you need more power, you can increase it to 130 bar. I have not tried that for fear of damaging the sears and perhaps a harder recoil.

Hi Doc, I ran into an interesting thing when I went to tune up my 125 Sniper .25, the factory spring was one coil longer than the factory spring from my 135. So, I just happened to have an extra Vortek spring for a 135 (.142 x 44 coil) that was one coil longer than the factory 125 Sniper spring, I figured that there should be enough room to compress the Vortek spring, so I installed it in the 125 Sniper .25. I had a modest gain in velocity (approximately 1 fpe), but the Sniper has a short barrel compared to a standard 125 (about 6" for the moderator). Now I told you this story because I have been itching to buy a 125 .25 with a 19" barrel and do the above upgrade just to see how much velocity gain one can achieve with the extra 6" of barrel. As the 125 Sniper was pretty much maxed out by the factory, I doubt that the standard 125 has a spring as long as the Sniper as the extra barrel length brought the velocity up to spec while maintaining a smoother shot cycle. I tuned up my 135 .22 (lube and deburr) and added the Vortek spring and gained almost 2 fpe, but the main reason I changed the spring is that the Vortek spring does not contain Mercury and it is reported that the factory spring does. Good luck with the tuneup as a proper deburr, polish, piston seal, and moly lube will give you a small bump in power.
And yes, I plan on replacing the springs with the vortex gas pistons when they become available in the US for the reasons mentioned above!

Thanks Robert, I think I am going to go with your advice. I will hold off on replacing the spring and invest in the Vortex gas ram when available. Will repost when I get it
-
Thanks Sam, interesting info on the 135 spring. Now I am thinking of getting a 135 and doing the Vortex change in the future vs. waiting for the 135 to come out from the vendors. Gonna decide by Monday- 11% off and free shipping at AGD

I have issue with Vortex by Hatsan replace or serviced by them 4 times and still leaks down. now they want me to pay to play all ready spent $488.00 gun + warrentie service upgrade or degrade cost.
what do I need to recharge my Vortex Ram ?

When did you buy the rifle and have it upgraded originally?

As multiple people have told you by now, if you've had the same issue this many times, you're probably doing something wrong. Also, the people at Hatsan are great at customer service so long as you're not trying to take advantage of them.
P.S. Please make use of the "Spell Check" feature before posting a reply if you want anyone to take you seriously.

The last replacement was done by Hatsan late March 2015. it had good speeds of 991 fps but did not make just sitting in the corner it leaked down since that time.

Well it sounds like they have gone above and beyond. You bought the rifle in 2013 that was two years ago. Their warranty is only 1 year so even after your warranty expired they still fixed it for you. Once again no one has such bad luck that over two years they trash 4 gas rams. I have a feeling you are doing something wrong. You might talk to them about what you are doing wrong compared to what you need to be doing to take care of the rifle.

I have a old webely and scott that I retro fitted with new seal and cut down Hatsan spring from a Winchester 1000's no drop of speed from it since I purchased a F1 Crony. I preloaded it by having 1.5" excesive spring lenght. and it is now shooting a bit faster than when I measure its speed back in December 2014. 7.9 g 650 fps now 689 fps. crosman 4.0 gr were at 830 fps now at 950 fps . Its has been sitting in the same room as the Hatsan 135. Were as Hastan in april was when returned at 990 fps and now 800-825 fps 14.3 gr pellets. I thinking if I just let them replace the spring with another spring not the Vortex Ram... it would have stilll been shooting harder than heck. As it did with the factory spring. Hatsan shoots a much lighter pellet to get there 1015 fps. I was shooting 1 gr heavyer pellet.
They are not replacing the gas ram with a Nitro piston from another gun maker but one of there own products. some how I have been getting all the failures of products used or failure of techincal expertise from the smiths used to repair my gun. I have No Idea.... but if your product can not stay working for several years you should take it off the market place.

The thing is there are more than just you who have gas ram mod 135s none of them are having the same issues you are. That is a reasonable deduction that if no one else is having this issue its something the user is having issues with.
