Title: Hunting Season has Begun
Post by: Booger on June 29, 2014, 07:48:14 PM
Well it is hot, real hot. With all the heat the big Texas grasshoppers are coming out. Today I saw my first grasshopper sitting on the fence 32 yards from my shooting table. One shot one explosion, pieces every where. :) I need to get my shooting area air conditioned, I can not stand it more than about 15 minutes.

One climbed on my target, and with the splatter he ruined my target (and my grouping too). LOL

;D Wish I had some of those here on Long Island Haven't seen on in forever. Now what happened to Phildor? also as to A/C on your porch Just get a portable 14,000 BTU units put it behind you on the porch and  instant A/C then maybe a nice 8ft market umbrella then you have a nice shady spot with on demand cool breeze for your grass hopper hunting blind  ;) ;D

Sorry for the offtopic but as several have mentioned, those huge old grasshoppers i remember from 20-30 years ago are gone. Those big ones that took off in a flurry of black\yellow wings and the scaley ones that looked like a cousin to a desert horny toad..haven 't seen them in forever. Still plenty of the smaller green squishey ones in the garden. Not to go even further offtopic but i haven't seen a brown bat in years and the big bullfrogs are gone too.  :(  plenty of those japanese beetles though....

Years ago, a man and wife owned a little lounge out on the highway.  The name of the place was "Mike and Judy's".  As time passed, they divorced and he left.  The new name was "Just Judy's".  More time passed and Judy sold out.  The name became "Was Judy's".  So why and I telling you this story ---> the name of the place was a link to the past.

Jesse, under you new name "Booger", maybe you could put another line that says "Was Phildor".  Just a thought!

Well if you lived in DRY HEAT state you could get by with a SWAMP COOLER which would cheaper to operate. ;) ;)

I do the same thing with mosquitoes at 50 yards with my springer. Easier at my house where we have the big skeeters. It is harder at my brother-in-laws those skeeters are tiny. When I go to his house I have to use the scope.
