Post by: bradyman1 on January 14, 2011, 09:59:51 AM
I noticed that alot of you guys get to hunt during the week. I really envy that and I got to thinking, I wonder what these guys do for a living. So I'll start. I am an estimator for an electrical contractor. What do you do?

The home remodeling industry is pretty much dead where I am (St. Louis MO area). We have a few doctors and such that we are working for but most of our residential is restoration work (fire and storm damage).

Residential plumbing contractor here... this is my 16th year and one of the worst i've seen so far as net profits go. Throughout the 90's and early 2000's i couldn't get enough qualified people to keep up with the new house construction not to mention the repairs and gas line installation. I typically had 8-12 people full time. Now it's down to myself and one longtime employee, the phone only rings a few times a day and it's only repairs that typically come in now. I could get used to this... ;D

I'm a barber..have been for 41 years. I received my Missouri State Barber Board licence in 1970 and went right into cutting hair for a living in my father's shop. In 2000, after 30 years standing behind the chair, I retired but I still keep my licence active. I worked too blinkin' hard earning it to allow it to expire! There's more to being a barber than cutting hair...ya gotta be a philosopher, phychiatrist, advisor,  mediator, conversationalist but most of all a barber has to be able to listen. You'd be surprised what some customers will tell you..knowing, of course, you'd NEVER repeat what you hear.

Home conveyance and clean out.

Basically when the bank re claims a house, me, dad and brothers go in and either boot the other person out with the help of a cop, or if the house is empty, we completely strip clean it.
