The bolt handle on my Discovery pops up when firing and sometimes gives a loud POP and a reduced power shot as the air escapes rearward. I have come up with a very simple and effective solution. At the corner of the slot the handle slides in I dimpled the metal with a center punch to slightly deform the material and makes a positive detent that prevents the bolt from coming up but allows you with slight effort to rack the bolt for reloading. You need to be gentle with the punch as the metal is kinda soft. Now the bolt clicks into battery and stays there. Here is a picture. No more goofy rubber bands or plastic sleeves that don't last.

Seem to remember someone mounted a magnet on the tube to hold bolt down. ;D
Glad you got it fixed.

Good to see you teach some common sense here !

Nice work zap!
Definitely cooler than a rubber band. 8)

I like it, mine pops up sometimes too, holding it down or rubber bands are mickey mouse, I am going to punch mine tomorrow, thanks

Thanks for posting the idea.

Great idea, both my Disco's pop up sometimes or just get push up by accident, I will be doing this real soon.
Thanks for the improvement...

I want to do it but I am scared. I would be the ONE I like the idea that it is permanent and that is also what worries me If you were to grind or file the groove a bit lower would that work

I often wondered why they have the bolt loose like that, with only the handle weight keeping it in place. But then again other air rifles and rimfire rifles I have used in the past were like that too. It doesn't bother me in the least with our Discos because the wife and I learned from kids to make sure it was closed before we shot.

Great Idea ! I'm going to find my Punch right now ! A black permanent Marker should cover the Spot .

Tommy,
Do not file a grove, If you do the bolt will slide back how ever much you filed and the bolt O-Ring may not seal against the barrel chamber... remember the O-ring pushes against the the barrel chamber and a few thousands of an inch being filed off may cause a leak.
Just do like zaphod621 did and showed and you will be fine... if you get it just a little to much then you can file off the punched part a little. It isnt going to take much to hold the bolt down. Even if the handle still moves up and down a little is fine, all you are doing it keeping the bolt from flying all the way up and back when firing.

I think Tommy is talking about extending the grove downward (not front to back) to allow the bolt handle to rotate more.
I was thinking of trying this if I have that problem.
-
Exactly
That way gravity can help out a little more

Gravity or just that it will take a longer distance for the bolt to come unlocked.

You are right, but the better way is to punch a little dimple so it actually locks in place! Sometimes its not the gravity it needs, the power of 2000 PSI is what forces it up. I have noticed that going through the woods and a small tree branch or something pushes it up and it doesn't take much, not worthy when you don't notice it until after you fire the shot!
