Title: .30 XS60C-PCP
Post by: Railbuggy on June 28, 2014, 07:54:47 PM
Just thinking :  Would it be hard or cost to much to turn down a .30 caliber barrel blank to fit Mike's XS60C
 Or maybe 9mm/.357.
It would be nice to make a poor man's seal team sniper carbine or rifle. ;)

The reservoir is too small for calibers that large.... To make a .30 cal worthwhile over a .25 cal, you need to aim for the 100 FPE range, and for a .35 cal more like 150 FPE, and those numbers are staying with the JSB pellets.... Those are not easy numbers to achieve, even at 3000 psi, and likely impossible at the 1500 psi the FD-PCP is designed for....

This isn't to say it's impossible, there are a couple of us that are toying with the idea, but it would be a bottle gun with MAJOR changes, and it isn't going to happen any time soon, maybe next winter's project.... Every time you make a change, it usually requires two more, and those two 4 more, and so on.... and pretty soon you end up using the trigger group, a reworked receiver, and part of the stock, and everything else is custom built.... Just have a look at my Disco Double .30 cal build and you'll get the idea....

Thanks Bob
Right now my Crosman's 2289g 12"w/tko & 2400KT 18" w/tko get used every day. I want to stick with the .22 pellet for my first PCP that may be the XS60C or maybe the Hatsan AT44PA or 10.  Being disabled with copd keeps me out of the bush. I just traded  Dads M1 Garand to my brother in Texas for 800  federal reserve notes. I'm wanting to move up to a PCP that can hit the birdy out to about 50 to 75 yards. thanks/mike

Birds at 75 yards would seem to be more .22 fodder than larger.... The .30 cal is a kewl caliber, but pellets are expensive ad the gun uses a LOT of air to produce the kind of velocities you need for long range work.... Don't forget, at 950 fps, you get 2 FPE per grain of pellet weight, and you need about 1 cu.in. of air for each FPE.... An FD-PCP only has a total of about 240 CI of air available per fill from 1500 psi down to 1000 (it's useful range for a 4% ES), whereas a Disco has nearly twice that from 2000 psi down to 1200....
