Title: AT44 long and 22 cal 14.3 grain pellets
Post by: blackdiesel on June 22, 2014, 11:49:58 PM
Got a chance to chrony my AT44 and it's averaging 1037 fps with the 14.3 Crosman domes.  They're accurate at 25 yards but I have not had a chance to do anything longer.  Any body shot these pellets at longer ranges 50+ yards?  Will the gun over power them at this speed and cause them to flutter and spiral?

I had an AT-44 short barrel and stock it shot 14.3 gr. pellets at 950, so your results are not impossible.... However, I would use heavier pellets.... Even if the 14.3's don't have accuracy problems, a heavier pellet such as the 18.1 gr. JSB Exact Heavy will produce more FPE at the muzzle and retain a greater percentage of that downrange.... However, accuracy is king, so use whatever your gun shoots the best at 50+ yards....

I have 18 grain jumbo heavies and 25 grain monsters on the way.  I have a few thousand of the Crosman 14.3 grains so was just checking others experience with these at long range.  I'm waiting on a replacement from Airgun Depot, they sent me the pump version instead of the side lever.  But I decided to send a few shots over the chrony before sending it back.

I mostly shoot those out of my Carreer II as they are the only ones we can get at our one sporting goods store. They will dump a crow at 70 yds leaving the barrel at just under 1000 fps. Hope that helps a little.
