Title: Fly at 43 yards with QB78
Post by: nervoustrigger on June 21, 2014, 03:59:52 PM
Saturday morning started like most...I got up early before the rest of the house and started the bacon and grits and coffee.  After a little while, my wife joined me to help and the kids started waking up.  After the eggs and toast were ready, we sat down to a nice breakfast.  Afterwards I grabbed the QB78 and headed over to the neighbor's house to see if I could eliminate another chipper or two for them.  Around 9:15am, I noticed one out at a lasered 60 yards.  I lined up with 1.5 dots of holdover and squeezed the trigger and promptly saw the pellet fly wide right.  I fired another pellet and saw that the previous one wasn't a flyer.  Guess the gun got bumped hard because 2 days ago it was hitting dead on at that range.

With the prospect that the scope rings or barrel band might be under stress from whatever had knocked it out of alignment, I headed home and loosened things up, applied threadlocker and retightened, then went to the back yard to align the adjustable rings.  After about 10 shots on the 43 yard target, it was hitting really close to perfect without having taken the scope off its optical center.  So I finished up by shooting the bottom 3 targets on the page to confirm the zero and it was looking pretty good.

Right about the same time, I noticed a fly land between the 2nd and 3rd targets.  "Hmm, wouldn't that be something?" I thought to myself.  So I steadied my aim and gently squeezed the trigger.  Poof, the fly exploded into little black bits.

I picked up the rifle and laughed like a villan all the way back into the house to grab the camera!

Come on, chipper, give me another chance.  ;D

Thanks, Stefan.  With the way you so often are the first to respond, I sometimes picture you as in The Matrix...except with GTA being piped directly to your cerebral cortex.  Or something like that.

Awesome!  And I have an uncle named Tommy 8)  Actually he got the first QB78 HPA conversion I built.

So do you have dog named Rocky or a fish named Finley?  Hmm?  Yeah, me neither.  ;D

Just kidding, nice shot.

After you make a shot like that, your man cave becomes your Lair.

Hey, thanks Joe!  You're right, that was a smile that hung around for a few minutes ;D

Jerry, I raised the bar?  Didn't Joe already slay a housefly at 50 yards with a soda straw and spring from an ink pen?

Jesse, I know you were joking but that rifle shoots the JSB 18.1gr so well that it is a little like cheating.  And cheating has never been so much fun!

Mike, the workshop is my man cave and since lairs are guarded by fire-breathing dragons, maybe that explains why it was so freaking hot in there today!

We'd all "cheat" like that if we could.    ;D
