yup

My first m-rod was a refurb, and you would be hard pressed to tell it wasn't new, and shot like a charm. My disco also is the same way.
Any gun sold , then returned with issues or just as a customer satisfaction return, can only be resold as a refurb by retailers.
-
Just a complete guess here, but I'd say that a lot of the refurbs are just from the bent barrels they were having.
I really want to pull the trigger on one myself.

I bought a refurbed .22 snyrod in April from R&L. It came in great condition, not perfect, but pretty darn nice. It did have an issue with accuracy at first. The crown and first 1/4" of the muzzle end was pretty torn up so my groups were unpredictable and not-so-hot.
I contacted crosman to get a new barrel sent out which they did, with the caveat that if I installed it myself, it voided my warranty. OR, I could send it into them. I opted to install myself, but checked the new barrel carefully when it came in, installed it, and after 100 or so rounds, it's shooting great.

That statement just puts me off even more from buying another mrod/synrod. So the synrod is sold to the original buyer and is sent back because what i can only assume is bad accuracy because of the lack of QC for the barrel. So then it is resold as a refurb. this time it is resold with the same bad barrel? How can you call it a refurb? What was refurbished if the crown and barrel was still chewed up! So crosman just resold it for a small loss hoping the new buyer would not complain and they would not lose any more money? Maybe maybe not. Maybe i am being to hard on crosman but there are way to many people with posts just like this to make me even consider ever buying another one.

That's Crosman for you. If any other brand pulled the stuff that they did they would never sell another rifle from bad press ever again. I don't know why everyone continues to throw money at them. Their new Nitro Piston 2 is having horrible QC issues as well, oh well not my rifle.

I ordered one from R&L in the .25 cal. and will have it on Thursday. I will let you guys know what I find out...

The .25's don't seem to have the problems that the .22's have so I suspect you'll be good.
Don't get me wrong, my .22 refurb is a great shooter now, but yes, I do agree with some of the other posts that Crosman should be taking the time to thoroughly go through the gun and isolate and fix the problems. It does sound like they tend to pass the buck to the next customer, taking the chance that the new owner won't complain.

I have heard that the .25 barrels are made by Green mountain and are excellent barrels...

I talked to a crosman guy and he said the main reason was the rifles were gifts and the guys being a lot of people are lazy did not like the pumping involved so back went the crosman PCP's. Now I am not telling people to get them it is your own decision and you still have at least 30 days to send it back
-
That may be true and i have no doubt some get sent back for that type of a reason. The problem is they still call it a refurb and that particular one was sold originally with a terrible barrel showing very bad QC and then gets sent back and then re sold with the very same problem. That airgun should have never left the factory let alone make it into two different buyers hands. Have you seen the pictures of these QC issues? It appears to me based on the posts and pictures that crosman has very little concern with the quality coming out of the factory. You would have to be blind to think those crowns would be ok by anyones standards and should have never made it out. It truly is unfortunate because allot of potential customers who look up reviews and forum posts will be put off by these problems and eventually it will hurt crosman. I would rather see crosman fix these issues and rebuild the reputation as we all know the US does not need to lose jobs and or businesses.

You are right. I was lucky with my 22 disco I got 6 months ago. it shoots under an inch at 50 yds with crosman ultra mags or CPHP. not tried JSB's pain in the neck to send away for. Two of my friends bought syn rods in 22 very very accurate and I have an AT 44 which keeps up to them. all you here on internet is the bad ones and you never know who the person is that puts that bad info out there maybe they work for the competition who knows. The 3 I have seen that are 6 months old are as accurate as can be cannot speak for older ones

I too have a Disco .22 that I bought that has a beautiful crown and shoots very nice groups. I love it. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed...

When crosman gets it right they make a very accurate airgun no doubt and i will never argue that. I have an mrod in .25 that is very accurate. The problem mine has is occasional poi changes while maintaining the accuracy. You are correct that you mainly here about the bad ones. If they had better QC for the .22 & .177 i would own those also.

well it showed up today...it is near perfect. I took the shroud off and inspected the barrel it has a nice crown and nice rifling. I found what looks like use to be a scratch in the shroud and someone had blacked out the scratch other than that it looks like it has not been fired. I am happy with the purchase and cant wait to shoot it. I ordered some pellets the next day after the deal went through at R&L...

Sounds like you hit the jackpot.

Sounds like you hit the jackpot.
If I had to guess it was shipped to the original buyer with a scratch in the shroud and Crosman blacked it out and sold it as a refurbished rifle. all the paperwork was in a sealed bag as well as the degas tool and magazine...
-
....or someone fooled with it in the store.
-
Hopefully you will be just as happy after you start to shoot it. post up the results when you get a chance to shoot it.

I called Crosman today and told them of the scratch in the shroud. They said they would ship out a new one right away and if I see anything else with in the 30 days let them know and they will take care of it....
-
....and now you have an extra shroud (and possibly some baffles) to play with?
Jackpot.

I Got a refirb .22 Synrod from Kevin in CT at yellow. He shipped it on a Saterday. It had a air leak so I sent it back to Crosman. They emailed me a prepaid UPS lable and I had it back in my hands 5 days latter. Holds Air great now.
Latter talked to Kevin on another matter and he asked about the gun he sold me. I said all was fine. He replied if there is a further issue to return the gun to him for n/c replacement. You can't beat that for service!

Do you have contact informant for Kevin in CT?
Thanks

I just received my refurb .177 synrod from R&L a few days ago: it looks brand new! Came with 2500 psi of air, so I'm guessing it doesn't have a leak ;-) Still waiting on my new scope and rings to check accuracy, but I'll keep you guys posted.

I have installed the new shroud. It looks new and shoots like new. I am happy with the customer service of Crosman they shot out the parts right away and I would not be afraid to buy another refurbished rifle again.
