Title: Trail NP Pistol Newbie question
Post by: Roy in Texas on June 12, 2014, 09:16:29 AM
Hey Guys,
I did a few searches and didn't find anything so I'm hoping somebody can help.  I want to mount a scope and there has to be a trick to remove the rear sight carrier without cutting it off.  Any suggestions? What am I missing?
Thanks,
Roy

I haven't had time to tinker with mine yet but I plan on putting an optical sight on it also. It appears, from the parts diagram, that it is just held in place with the side clamp screw to the dovetail. Have you removed the screw to see if the sight assembly would just slide off?

Hey Ezman,
I did remove the screw and backing plate.  It seems that it just pinches the rail to stop the carrier from moving.  The front and back parts are still tight on the slide.  There has to be a trick that I'm missing.

Asking Crosman, standby.

Crosman says it's nothing special, just the screw clamp. Remove it and the sight SHOULD come off. If you have a rubber mallet, try tapping it lightly. Or possibly using a small flat screwdriver wedged under from the back side. Might be able to move it to loosen it.

That could work.  It seems pretty tight and could potentially mar up the rails.  I was hoping to get a been there done that confirmation before I bang on it. :)

LOL
Roger that.
If you can wait a bit, I'll scurry down to my shop this evening after work and try mine.

Okay, I got it off.  I removed the screw and locking plate.  I put a pin punch through the hole from side to side. No worries the hole is not threaded and pried it of.  It actually came off easily with no nicks or marks on the grooves.  We are good to go!  Thanks for the quick replies.  I will respond back once I get this red dot sighted in.
Thanks again,
Roy

Slightly off topic but does anyone know the swept volume on these?

Also: Are there two piston designs? I have a Trail Pistol but it's a couple of hundred miles away at the moment. When I had mine apart the piston and seal looked very much like a Trail NP, I wouldn't be surprised if the piston seal were the same. Looking at the EVP though the piston seal looks quite different, almost like the head of the piston and seal are a separate piece.
