I bought a Crosman 1322 recently and grabbed a stock and 1399 forearm. I'd like to add a new steel breech and a few other parts, but I need help with barrels. I want to add a barrel long enough to add a shroud, but I don't know how long the barrel needs to be. Does the barrel typically extend to the end of the shroud, or idles it only need to be long enough to attach the shroud? What lengths would you recommend for a short barrel with a 6" shroud?

If you are going to order the barrel from crosman, they come in 14.5" or 18". You can always get a custom length barrel but they cost more.
Another option is to order an 18" barrel then cut and recrown it to the size you desire.

Or get a 24" and cut and crown it yourself to whatever length you want including not cutting it at all.

+1
Give your lathe a work out and put a realy nice crown on it. The stock crown on the Crosman barrels leaves some to be desired.

Generally speaking you need at least 2" past the barrel band. So a 12" and longer barrel would do it. The shroud on a 12" barrel would be 8" long. 2" over the barrel & 6" past the end. You can order the shrouds any length and a couple of finishes from AC Customs. You need 6 " or so past the barrel to be neighbor friendly.

You can put a short shroud 8" or so on any length barrel (over 12") or you can start the shroud at the barrel band and make it long enough to extend 6" past the barrel. Below is a 1322 with an 18" barrel and a 13" shroud from AC.
It is 8" over the barrel & 5" past the end of the barrel. Very quiet.
