Hello All,
I havent been around for a while but I rejoined (old login would work??) Im back for some advice. a few years back I bought a Gamo Whisper and added the GRT-III trigger. I loved this rifle but stupidly sold it and I have regretted it ever since. I am into shooting (mostly my AR-15 and 1911 Pistol) but I want to get another airgun because thats all I can shoot where I live for safety reasons.
I am looking for advice on a decent rifle to get me back in the airgun game. Unfortunately my budget isnt what it used to be so replacing the Whisper would be a stretch. I stopped by the local Wally World today and other than the Red Ryder and cheap Daisy's they had the Crosman Storm XT with 4x32 Centerpoint Scope for $109. Is this a decent rifle or are there others that are better for not much more cash? I also loved the GRT-III trigger so a rifle that would accept that trigger would be a bonus.
If I could find a Gamo with the metal trigger I might stretch the budget, are they really hard to find?
Thanks everyone for your help and opinions. Its nice to be back.

With the trigger being the equalizer, I would rather have a Crosman Phantom (I think Storm is similar). I had good luck with the Phantom.
If you've been out of the loop, have you seen the Titan at Walmart? It is the gas ram "sensation" at about $149. The Trigger fits that, too.
Might be over your budget, but it's what all the girls are wearing this season, and I can see why. I almost went there again on the way home tonight to look for one.

Hey Shawn and welcome back to GTA. Like daveshoot says, take a look at what Crosman has to offer at Wally World. Also look at Pyramyd and if you find something you like, use discount code "nra-pyramyd" to get 10% off your order.
The Titan is a good gun also and is about the top of the line for what Wal-Mart carries right now that I've seen. The Phantom is a good gun and I believe it's at $80? It comes without a scope so consider that too in your pricing.
Crosman has stepped up their game in the last few months. They have a good product and about the best customer service (IMHO) of any airgun manufacturer. And with Wally Worlds return policy, you can't go wrong.
The Storm is a good, stout and powerful gun. It is a springer. The newer nitrogen piston models are the craze. They are a little harder to cock but also harder hitting. They generally outperform springers as far as power out. They also have the plus of being able to stay cocked for longer times (indefinately in theory) than the springer. The Crosman/Benjamins I own, and all of my AGs, shoot Crosman Premiere Hollow Points (CPHP) very well which are also available at Wally World cheaper than most other places.
Check them out and I'm sure you will find one that looks promising to you and fits your budget. And yes, a GReaT-III trigger is a must to make you a happier shooter. Let us know what you select and post a review of your opinions. We like pictures too!!!!

I have the Titan, its .22 caliber, and is a fantasticly accurate shooter. i did however get one bad one before this one, i returned it and got another one. i could not be 1% happier with it. It accepted the GRT trigger, came with a somewhat decent scope, and a really nice stock. solid wood, strong mounting bolts, and just felt good in my hands. i wrote up a really thorough review, and if you like i can send it. i would say, go to local wally world, and see what they have. the black crosman phantom is a good low priced gun, and accepts the grt, and the titan is a little higher priced (149). if you want to order something online, pa is a great place to start... pick a price tag, pick a caliber, and see what you can find.

Thanks folks,
That Titan GP sounds like a winner. Does it share the same powerplant as the Benji Trail NP? Im sure the Benji has nicer features but I just care about the mechanism. I never had a .22 so it might be a nice change as long as .22 ammo is readily available. Do most of the Walmarts that have the Titan GP have Crosman Premier HPs in .22? Are these nitro guns as hard on scopes as the springers? What kind of accuracy are you Titan GP owners getting?
My closest Wally World had a skimpy airgun section. It used to be decent. Hopefully they are getting new stock in. I have about 5 Walmarts within 25 minutes so maybe I call around. I hope I can grab a rifle soon. The powder burners are getting to spendy to shoot often. Its hard to shoot the AR-15 very much when it costs you 40 cents everytime you pull the trigger. Plus I cant shoot it at home.
Also, is there a good article or other info I can read that explains the workings of the nitro pistons.
Thanks,
