Title: Daisy 901, greate gun.
Post by: DavidS on May 25, 2014, 01:07:31 PM
I have been impressed with the Daisy 901 I picked up this month.    It shoots accurately with out the need for taping the barrel (that is needed with the 880).

My 901 also took the same power mods as my Daisy 880's, and gave a little better results (aproximately 12.8FPE at muzzle).

The best part of the 901 for me is the sturdy resin that the stock, forstock, and reciever housing is made from.   I can mount a scope on the 901 with out having to worry about the slghtlest over quick move causing it to wobble.

Though it did have one trouble area before I modified it:
Before modifying it the valve opened slow enough that abough a third of the air was being wasted to create more sound after the pellet left the barrel.    I did not chrony it befor modifying though, befor modifying it, I think it was a bit lower than my Daisy 880's were before I modified them.

Needless to say: MY DAISY 901 IS NOW MY FAVORITE AIR GUN.
I will update my sig as soon as I have the time to boot into a different OS with support for a web browser that has ECMA Script (sometimes called Java Script) support.

Now if only Daisy made a good MSP Hand gun.   Then I could have a nice replacement for my Crosman 2289g's :) .

:) :) Though the 901 does have one squirrel to its name (Pest control) :) :) .

David,

thanks for the information.  How is the accuracy?  Also, what pellets does it like?

My 856 spit out it's barrel, so now I'm looking at the 901.

David,

thanks for the information.  How is the accuracy?
Fairly good.   It will do .24 inch center to center at 25 yards rested, with good pellets.   And that is with me shooting, and I am not that good of a shot.

I only throw about 50 shots per day at targets for practice (plus about 200 on Sundays). So for those that practice a reasonable amount with it (200+ shots per day) I am sure that it will do even better.

Also, what pellets does it like?

Winchester Round nose, Gamo Hunter, and Gamo Destroyer.
It also likes Daisy pointed (so long as you avoid bent skirts), though they do not have enough mass to hunt with.

There are a few other pellets that it does OK with, though the above are the ones that it realy likes.

It does NOT like Crosman pellets at all.

Though this is just my experience so far.

Well the 901 is a good gun, so far.    I am considering making it my main hunting gun (at this time that place belongs to one of my Daisy 880's).

It is definitely worth it.

It has all of the advantages of the Daisy 880 plus a few extra positives.

Sounds like a real shooter you've got there David.  How is it to pump compared to the 880?

It is a little stiffer than the 880 due to the shorter pump leaver, though still a lot easier than any of the Crosman guns.

I've always been impressed with the way a Daisy pumps compared to a Crosman.  I believe the rollers make a huge difference. ;) ;)

Ok today doing some target practice at 18 yards I got a 15 shot group into an oblong hole with my Daisy 901 and weighed Winchester Domed pellets.

So it is definitely a good accurate little gun.
