Title: Carbon Fiber Tank & Heat...
Post by: BCB on May 25, 2014, 11:48:39 AM
During some of my travels to and from my shooting range, my carbon fiber tank is in my truck...

At times I stop here and there and the tank gets exposed to some heat during sunny days.  The interior of the truck warms considerable...

I wonder how hot the tank would have to get before it might become dangerous and possible explode?...

Thanks...BCB

The cylinder shouldn't explode. They are equipped with burst disk that will pop if the pressure rises to a dangerous level. This replaceable disk will let go before the tank explodes. Also consider, SCBA cylinders are designed for rescue breathing. Fire personnel go into burning structures where the temperature will go WAY over what you would see inside your vehicle.

Thanks...

I considered the fire department people using them also, but I still needed to ask the question...

Actually, mine is in an under-seat storage container in my Tundra.  I doubt it gets excessively hot in there...
