Title: Massive Recent Price Drop on MTR77NPC
Post by: harleyflhxi on May 13, 2014, 02:34:53 AM
It's now down in the $125 range.  I suspect that this gun has been redesigned as a NP2 and is about to be released, so they are blowing out the existing stock to prepare the way.

The existing gun is a very cool item, but it is very hard to cock and quite loud.  It seems that both of these problems would be remedied through the use of the new NP2 technology.

That's my take... what's yours?

My take is I was thinking this was going to happen ( price drop on the existing break barrels )  when I saw the adverts on the Crosman site for the new NP2 technology and now I wonder if I can upgrade my Vantage or if the changes are so major that it's not economically feasible or possible. No matter really as I'm more interested in getting a PCP gun for my next weapon anyway.

I guess Crosman is big enough to pull this off.  The same type thing put Adam Osborne out of business.  He had a portable (luggable) computer for a good price before anyone else.  He announced the Osborne II, an improved version before he had it available for sale.  People quit buying the Osborne I in anticipation of the new one.  Without the cash flow he went under.  Crosman must still be selling enough stuff to stay afloat.

That and there's enough margin in what they are selling they are still making money even at the reduced price.
