Title: '69 Sheridan
Post by: avator on May 10, 2014, 12:33:45 AM
Adding another one to the collection. I posted in the classified that my Brother in Law was looking for his childhood Pellet gun. It was an early '60s Sheridan with the light colored stock. A member contacted me with this beauty. He bought in 1969 and has since given it to a friend. The friend doesn't use it anymore and wanted to sell it. This is not the gun my Brother in Law is looking for but, I just can't let it go. I struck a deal with the owner and it will be headed my way next week. Man, I love this stuff.

i like them very much ,had a 71 and sold it in 2011 of feb and do i regret it ...i really want another and would rather stick to older models like that one u have ,i still have .20 cal pellets for my next sheridan.... the rocker saftey which are not made with it no more cause in 1992 they came out with another type .... u have model c and if im not mistaken walnut stock as well ,only thing i dont like is that it has no rubberized butt pad other than that it a great ag ...this would be on my wish list only if i could get model c ....you have yourself a winner ,enjoy and shoot safe...jorge

Can't go wrong with a 60's Sheridan as long as it's mechanically sound.  It will quickly become one of your favorites.

that is a sweet rifle!! I love how the stock on that one and my older Sheridan have slimmer stocks than the pump arm!

my Sheridan doesn't have a serial number that I can find, how do you tell when it was made if there isn't a number on it? from memory it has racine on it, with a rocker safety

Try this ;)
Until 1956, the rear sight was soldered with the first year knurled windage adustments
1960 5 M/M Cal & Made in USA added to pump tube
1961 saw evolution of the bolt from straight to curved to pear shaped with hole (eventually removed 1975)
1963 with a switch from the hold down safety to the rocker safety
1964 changed the front sight to a forward ramp style.
1964 Inspection dates were stamped on left side of receiver (Backwards and alphabetically)
1968 removed grooves from the receiver
1972 Serial numbers instituted

Here are some known facts as they pertain to your rifle: This is part is talking about my Silver Streak

Straight bolt handle -  Earliest C models up to 1961 when bolt handles became curved : 1949 -1960
Rear Sight -  sight held by small allen-head screw opposing two dimples on opposite side : 1956 - 1971 (earlier models featured permanently soldered rear sights with knurled windage knobs)
Automatic Safety - Pre 1963 when rocker was introduced. 1949-1962
Narrow Trigger Guard  - 1959 and earlier  (can't see it in your pic but there should be philips screws holding the trigger guard instead of rivets)
Stock and Forearm -  If 4 screws were used in place of roll pins on the forearm, then it indicates one of first two years of that model - along with thin "almost crude" stock and thin cylindrical forearm 1949-1951. Roll pins indicate 3rd year production onward.- 1952 on
Partridge-style front sight with vertical rear face - Incorporated 2-3 years after introduction of the C model : 1951-1964
Simple Markings -  the words "5mm Cal" and "Made in USA" on opposite side introduced in 1960.  Absent those inscriptions 1949-1959
High Comb Stock - 1949-1958  Lowered in 1959

I'd say the best guess given the info on hand is it's between a 1956 - 1958 model (Based on rear sight and high comb).

Tim
VPilot

If I'm not mistaken it was like this;
CB was all the rockers, thumbers etc.
CB9 was early transitional packed in lead.
CB9PA was late transitional. Slip in valve. Both transitionals used the same trigger, bolt and hammer package with [push pull safty
CB9A is what they have now but that has ghone from Walnut to Sycamore?. Slip in valve and Safety on the gaurd.
Silver streaks drop the B fro model designation.
To confuse the actions were never marked with the B as that designated balck and whehn the markings were stamped the Guns could still be a black or chromed gun. Just like an E or H pistol is stamped before it was chromed or painted/blacked and only chrome guns are actually E/H's and all else is EB/HB cause it is painted or blacked somehow.
C/E/H means silver.
Now you know TOO MUCH!

dd789-- thanks!! so if Im reading that right, my streak is a 63-64, as it has a rocker safety, grooved receiver, and a partridge front sight?

The streak in my AG list was my Dad's. Per Timmy it was made in May 1970. I was born in 1974 LOL!

It is certainly one of the most accurate AG's I own. The adage is true: They don't make them like they used too.

I saw your post. Both of the ones I am selling are late 1960's, early 1970's. I have a 1957 Silver Streak since a kid & am keeping it.

Bill, you lucked out with a fine looking piece of American walnut there. A good refinish will really make it "pop". The brass black looks good too. Enjoy.

Tracking says the Sheridan will be here today... YESSSSSSS!!!!! The best part is... I'll be at work and won't have to stand by the window waiting. The worst part is.... I'll be at work and not standing by the window waiting. The good news is.... This will be Memorial weekend and we took a road trip last night and had the 100cf HPA tank filled for the weekend's shooting. The bad news is....... I have to work Saturday. On a positive note.... I got the main ingredient for our favorite adult beverage. On the down side...... Apple cider is out of season and almost impossible to find. Life is full of ups and downs.

Not good !    I just got notification that Big Brown just dropped a package off at my front door. So that means... a '69 Blue Streak, and half case of refreshment, a 500ct. tin of .20 pellets and Betty Lou are in close proximity of one another and I don't get off work for 30 more minutes. And it's 90* and sunny in lower Alabama right now. It reminds me of when I was a small boy. My dad got me an HO race set for Christmas. On Christmas morning, he and my older brother set the track up on the kitchen table and proceeded to "test it out". They burnt up both of the cars before I even got to touch it.

I need to say this.....
Thank you to the two gentlemen that sold me this gun. It is everything you said it was and more.
We had so much fun just shooting it tonight that we ran out of daylight before we got the chance to chrony or even take pictures.
The rear site was canted to the right and all I had to do was ease the barrel to the left a smidge to put this baby dead on at 25 yds.
She wears her age very well. A bit of 00 steel wool and a fresh coat of clear and you will think I just took it out of it's original packaging.
8 pumps makes it a beast. 10 pumps and it sounds like Betty Lou's stock .177 FD-PCP. It dumps all the air with nothing remaining in the tube.
I love this gun !!!

The Cadillac of multi-stroke pneumatic rifles.  I have a few old pumpers and my '67 Blue Streak is the aristocrat of the bunch.  A real pleasure to shoot.

Wouldn't you just know it... I was able to get one tin of Benjamin .20 cal. cylindrical pellets from walmart before they went out of stock. I only bought one tin because I didn't know if the gun was going to be picky. What do you guys feed your Sheridan and where to you get them?

Thanks

Keep an eye on their online site, because they offer those again. when they have them. JSB Exacts are good too.

I don't find my '76 Blue Streak to be very pellet picky. In fact, I haven't found most MSP airguns to be picky. I think I would give the edge to CP Dome followed by Benjamin cylindrical. I have a tin of JSB Exact but haven't tried them in it yet. I get most pellets from Pyramyd Air but will buy from Walmart or Amazon if the deal is very good. No one ships pellets as well as PA. Ordering from anyone else is rolling the dice.

Get yourself some JSB's. They shoot better in my Sheridan than the Benjamin pellets, probably are the best you will find.  Four for the price of three at Pyramyd.

Yesssss !!! FedEx says there are 2500 JSB .20 on my porch. Miss Sherri is going to eat well when I get home from work..... not that I let her go hungry ever. Probly only got 100 of the first 500 I bought left. Beleive it or not, when Betty Lou and I go out to shoot, her first gun of choice is her .177 FD-PCP. Mine is the 1969 .20 Sheridan Blue Streak with open sights. I'm having an affair with this gun. It's ok.... Betty Lou knows about it. Don't tell nobody but, she even watches.

I know everyone claims 8 pumps max, but I've been pumping my 10 so long I was surprised to hear 8 pumps. Back when I was a kid I figured out that if it dumped all the air in one shot it had more power and 10 seemed to be good.

The JSB Diabolos work great. I usually only pump mine 5 or 6 times for plinking and 8 or 10 to take down a critter. Mine is very strong and 10 pumps is a workout.
Title: Re: '69 Sheridan
Post by: TooJung2Die on June 03, 2014, 11:06:36 AM
My '76 Blue Streak gets 620 fps with 8 pumps using CP Dome and 645 fps with 10 pumps. Like Bill just said, 10 pumps is a workout for any extended shooting. It dumps all the air but long term wear on the pump linkage has got to be greater at 10 pumps. I keep it to 8 and under.

Is it that he can't steroid the older ones or do I have that backwards?
Mine is an original one owner in very good shape, I don't think I want to modify it at all.
Maybe if it was broken.....

Ran a few over the chrony. Took the gun straight off the wall and these are the first 6 shots. The string is ;
4 pumps
5 pumps
6 pumps
7 pumps
8 pumps
10 pumps
respectively
Not sure why it went up and down between 4 and 7 pumps. I normally shoot it at 5 pumps, 8 if I'm going for a pest. I will run some more strings later to see if the gun was just cold or maybe needs a drop of oil. It's raining off and on now so it will have to wait.
10 pumps produced over 23 fpe with a 13.73 gr JSB domed.... ummmm... I'm impressed. This is an unmodified original 1969 Sheridan that has never even been resealed. I got it from the original purchaser.

My FD-PCP produces 22 fpe with 14.3 gr .22 cal.

Again, I'm impressed.

Here is the FD-PCP string.
