Title: Looking for an Anvil !
Post by: Scrambler82 on May 09, 2014, 10:12:29 PM
I can't post to the Classified Section yet but I am hoping this will not be deleted.

I am looking for an Anvel, a Forgers Anvil, a Peter Wright would be good a round 100 lbs. or something similar looking.

Anyone knowing of one for sale in the Temecula CA area or anyone willing to ship please let me know.

Thanks to anyone for help and to admin for allowing this to stay in place.

To help me make things out of metal !

I have some of the tools that plug in the "Hardie" hole on the top of some anvils and would like to use them.

I like working with metal some times, making little things.

An anvil is useful when bending metal,so it can come in handy.

I have always wanted one and I thought around SoCal Horse Country there has to be one good for sale.

Let's see, anything else !

is the Hardie hole used to hold clamps and rverse molds to make different shapes? They are really interesting because of their history>

Yes, the Haedie hole is the square one, there is a smaller round one too but the name of that one evades me.

Don't know, but you might check out a Farrier, who might have an old heavy one left, when he went to the smaller ones,  or have old ranchers around your area.  I'm sure you're finding that they're tough to get hold of a good one for a good price!

Your right on finding a good one.
When I get back I will check out the locals a little more.

I am hoping this one comes through:

Looks good, edges are good, not beat up, price isn't too bad, two hours away but I will go for it if I can buy it, waiting for a reply but will be calling afternoon today.

Thanks for the idea about local stuff.

Heading to,MA tonight, cleaning shop up back at the MA house and then back here, hopefully for good.

The round hole is called a pritchel and is used when punching holes in hot metal.  You put your metal stock over the pritchel and drive your punch down through the stock.  The pritchel gives the slug that comes out of the stock a place to go and keeps your punch from damaging the face of your anvil.

I've got an 80lb Isaac Hill that was made in England some time between 1830 and 1850.  I used it to straighten the bolt on my AR2079 last night.

Check these new ones. Prices seem reasonable.

I looked at the site, thanks.

Their Anvils look good, need to get a little more info.

I want a forged unit, theirs are made of Tool Steel which is good, but i can't find if forged or not.

I will bookmark this site and when I return form MA I will check it out.

thanks again.
