Title: The planets must have been in alignment
Post by: korny351 on April 18, 2014, 09:05:31 PM
Decided to do a little pellet testing with the 953.  Put a little Stoeger 4x32 scope on her and benched at 10m.  And the winner is Crosman wadcutters.  I love it when I get away cheap ($3/250).

Now that I know what the rifle is capable of, it's my turn to try and duplicate it off-hand with irons  ::).  Well, it's something to shoot for.

Mine likes the 7.4 points best but I am shooting 20-30 yards at about 525 fps. I made a sleeve to tighten up the valve size.

this is a 25 yard side rested 5 shot group with a tasco 4x15.

I have airguns that shoot the Crosman Premier wadcutters very well. But they are expensive. Like $13-$14 a tin.

I have several guns that really like the Winchester Domed from Tractor Supply @ $4.99 for a tin of 500. Mostly the pumpers. But what surprised me most was when I was struggling to find a pellet for the Airhawk. I was about to give up on those things and use them for beer can plinkers at 15yds when I picked up a random pellet from the shooting table and put it right thru the center of my dime sized dot at 25yds. Betty Lou was shooting her 1377 carbine and she had let one of the winnies drop on the table and that's the one I grabbed. I put 10 more of those little cheapies thru the same dot and have been shooting them ever since. Betty Lou's Airhawk like CPHP.

Local Ace Hardware carries a 250-count blister pack for less than $3.  Tin is marked Crosman Competition.
