Title: COMETA 300..surprising!
Post by: Marco2021 on April 16, 2014, 07:01:41 AM
Iv'e just picked up an older COMETA 300 in .177. Took a punt on it for $150 just as a field gun so I don't have to worry about it getting scratched and dirty. Can't do that with my TX or LGV. What a surprise..easy to cock, no twang whatsoever and a great trigger. Just a really easy old school air gun. Fits me perfectly and feels good and solid. In fact it is such a pleasure to shoot I am chuffed to bits with it. Has an all round laid back feel but mey be shooting a little slow maybe 650 fps so she's going in to get the seal and spring checked out. I've never owned a COMETA and I'm very very impressed. I bet the new gas rams are gorgeous. Anyone comment on fps please? My local airgun doctor reckons should be doing 900, even for an older model. She doesn't have any checkering so I reckon late 80's?
All comments appreciated.
Cheers
Mark.

Just got the 300 back and she has had a complete engine rebuild. Haven't had a chance to shoot her yet but a tug on the barrel feels a good 30% stronger. I am having an imitation silencer/muzzle break made up in satin black just to finish her off as the open sights were previously removed and the end of the barrel looks unfinished. Can't wait to get out with her on my next days off, am really taken with the 300 she fits me perfectly and just feels right, nicely balanced and a real keeper I think. A cracking old school Airgun for $150. As I said previously I bet the gas rams are nice, I nearly bought a Fusion a while back but had a windfall and bought a TX 200 instead. This kinda has me thinking how impressed I would have been with the Cometa..very impressed I reckon!
If anyone can tell me which pellets the 300's shoot well I would be grateful.

Cheers

Mark.
