Title: Brew Dog's "End of History"
Post by: TCups on July 23, 2010, 10:43:36 AM
I want some of this!

http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world)’s-strongest-beer/

PS
No matter how I try, I cannot seem to get the "Insert Hyperlink" button to actually insert a hyperlink into a line of text.  Anyone else figure out how to do it on this new server?

End of History (http://"http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world’s-strongest-beer/")

link here (http://"http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the world's-strongest-beer/")

very strange. . .   I can create the link easily in another forum, then paste it in this post, or I can attempt to create the link here, which doesn't work, then go back in an type the corrected text and it works.  But the insert hyperlink button will not work on its own in the GTA forum as best I can tell.

Actually, Tommy, the link at the top works fine, the one farther down that says "link here" doesn't want to work for me.  I think your confusion is that until you scroll over the link, it doesn't look like a link, that threw me at first too.  BTW, I don't use the insert hyperlink button, I just copy and paste from the address bar or my bookmarks list.

110 proof BEER??!!!  That's a higher alcohol content than most hard liquors, I'm not even sure I want to know what it tastes like, never mind the dead critter :-).  I REALLY like my beer, but I think this falls under the category of just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD.  I've tried some of the higher alcohol beers, a couple of my current favorites are in the 6% neighborhood.  I find anything much higher than that gets in the way of the flavor of the beer.  Later.

Dave:  I understand.  But it should be possible to link the web site to a word or line of text.  I can do it easily in most other forums.  You hi-lite the text to be linked, click "insert hyperlink" and a box opens to past the web address into.  Click OK, then the hi-lited text becomes the link, instead of just copying the web address.

Not a biggie, but it doesn't work on the GTA web site

Example I hi-lite the following text:

TEST TEXT (http://TEST TEXT)

and attempt to make it a hperlink, and get what you see above.  Scroll over TEST TEXT

The chose file doesn't let you choose an http// address.  You can paste into the TEST TEST text, but it doesn't appear as a link.  No, there is something amiss with the insert hyperlink button for sure.

Let's see, what if I paste . . .

TEST TEXT (http://www.drudgereport.com/)

Drudge into the text field, hmmmm . . .

OK, there it goes.

When you push the insert hypertext button you get, in brackets, "url=http//:TEST TEXT]TEST TEXT[/url" (I have omitted the opening and closing brackets.  Then, you have to replace the first "TEST TEXT" with the actual "www.webaddress-dot-com".  My error was that simply pasting the web address added another "http//:"

So, let's see . . .

I will type END OF HISTORY and see if I can link it to

http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world)’s-strongest-beer/

here goes

END OF HISTORY (http://END OF HISTORY)

OK, I got, without open and closing brackets "url]END OF HISTORY[/URL"

hmmm.

Next, I will enter the web address
http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world)’s-strongest-beer/

and make it the hyperlink

 (http://http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world’s-strongest-beer/)

OK, I got

"url]=http://http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world’s-strongest-beer/
[/url"

So next, I will lose the extra leading http:/ add a close bracket after "beer/" and add the text "END OF HISTORY" before the ending "[/url"

Let's see . . .

END OF HISTORY
 (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world’s-strongest-beer/)

did it work?

END OF HISTORY (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/07/22/dead-stuffed-animal-holds-the-world’s-strongest-beer/)

after the first opening bracket, the format must be url=web address, then close bracket, then TEXT of hypertext to link, then /url in brackets.  The "add hyperlink" button doesn't seem to do anything like that.
