Title: Quackenbush stock mod for QB79
Post by: Okiegunner on April 05, 2014, 01:01:35 PM
I just purchased a QB78 walnut stock from Dennis Quackenbush.  My intent is to use it for my current QB79 CO2 project with a 3.5oz tank.  What difficulties am I going to run into when modding the stock?  My thought is to simply cut off the forearm to match the Chinese QB79 stock and remove enough wood in the channel for the gas block. Is this all there is to it?

I have also read the front stock bolts are not required, what's your opinion?  Are the bolts important?  I would like to leave a little wood on the bottom of the forearm to support the tank but I don't believe the stock has enough material in the forearm.

Your help is appreciated,

Thanks

Robert

This isn't a Quackenbush stock, it was a Richard's Microfit for a QB78, but basically the same thing as you are facing.... http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=49943.80 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=49943.80)

I would suggest that you use the stock retaining screws that thread into the tank block for safety.... The two screws that retain the block into the end of the tube on a QB79 are too close to the end of the tube, and the two stock screws add a measure of safety should they fail....
