Does "Weihrauch" have a meaning other than being the company founder's last name?
If you don't speak German, please take a GUESS and don't cheat looking it up, and don't give the answer away!
I suppose it is easy for me having spent a summer in Germany (and I am not even German, what's up with that?) and studying the language from 7th grade to junior year in College sitting through boring German literature classes reading Faust in Old German :) I was an engineer at heart so I decided there were easier electives to take like psych, anthropology and geography to bring my GPA up. I just couldn't take the old german text (and context). Imagine reading Shakespeare in Middle English and multiply it by 5 :)

Why Rock when you can Roll ? ... have only a guess & took it :o
-
How did you do Scott?
I know it's tempting to look it up, but try not to :) At least some Weihrauch owners now know the meaning of their gun's name.

I don't see the definition?
I know but won't post.
:)

I took a stab but not sure. I do know it is the owner's family name but that is all.
-
I guessed "Air Smoke".

No clue ... voted on poll and never looked it up ???

im fairly confident in my vote, I know what half of it means. temptation of cheating to be right was gnawing at me, as I hate to be wrong, but I shall resist.

I don't have to cheat and look it up to know what "Weihrauch" means since I know German. After we are done with the poll, we should do another for "Feinwerkbau" ;D
-
I didn't look anything up. Based on what I knew - that Weihrauch is the guy's surname and since I find it an "unlikely" scenario that it would have anything to do with air or gun or weapon. I have gone with XXXXXXXXXXX. <edited so as not to prejudice your poll>
Now, I'll look it up and not comment further.

It means incense....
A fine quality airgun, but also a lot of twang and a highly overrated brand IMHO...

I don't want to sound negative, because again, they're fine quality AG's which can last for generations. But they are always adored, while the outside quality is great but the shooting experience could be much better for the money you spend on a Weihrauch. Twang, stockscrews that are loosening, a twist in de shot. It's almost a wonder that they are so accurate, but at the end it is almost mandatory to tune them. Having said that, an Air Arms or Diana/RWS shoots good straight out of the box. Now a lot of people like to tune or tinker on their guns, but I think for the money you spend on such a Weihrauch it should shoot good out of the box. It's a nice airgun, not the holy grail...

fair enough.

Agreed, but I did get lucky and was able to shoot mine right out of the box.

Thanks for giving it away Rudeboy.
Dave/Dez,
The Poll says what is the literal translation? It is "Holy Smoke" which means incense in German.
Weihrauch is also pronounced in (German) and how I pronounce it because I can't figure out how to pronounce it otherwise: Vy-ra-oohh
The middle h is silent as is usually when preceded by "ei".
Thanks everyone for taking the poll! Only 1/3 of you got it right :) The results are at the TOP of the page.
