Title: New Weihrauch HW95
Post by: Doc1880 on March 29, 2014, 09:56:43 PM
I received my HW95 from Jim at Precision Air guns. I purchased some 50 lb fishing line and Goo Gone, ran a couple of patches tied to the string through the barrel and removed the oil residue, then ran more dry patches until they came out clean. I only fired two pellets but man what a sweet smooth cocking, low low recoil and hardly any spring noise or vibration, the trigger is unbelievable, crisp, smooth and probably under 2 lbs. I am very "IMPRESSED" with this rifle.

I will shoot some groups soon and she how accurate she is with the open sights. Thanks again to everyone for all the help I have received here.

I shot 60 rounds today, JSB Exact Match Diabolo 13.73 gr. and HN Sport Field Target Trophy 11.42 gr, these may be on the heavy side. This rifle is a 20 cal. I'm just trying to get the hang of the artillery hold and allow the rifle to work. I played a little with open sight adjustment and found out until I get the hold down and consistent with each shot I'm wasting my time. I was able to get two to three rounds tight that's about it.

I will order a bag rest and try bench shooting. I guess for now I need to get her broken in and get the hold down, do my sight adjustments then go for trying to shoot groups.

I haven't posted pics in a forum in ages so I will get one taken and post soon hopefully.

Congrats on the new rifle Doc. I've got a R9 .20. It, like most R9s/HW95s, loves FTTs. Mine also shoots Crow Magnums. The tight groups will come with practice. Can't wait to see the pics.

The rifle is amazing, the trigger is the best, the Germans know how to build a gun. I am very impressed, the wood is perfect, bluing is to perfection, yep it's amazing!

I would buy it just for the trigger...LOl

Joe when you say off a soft rest are you talking a bag? If I install a scope can I zero the rifle in a rifle rest like a Lead Sled solo or will this not work on the springer?

Yup. I use a Caldwell bag. Don't use a lead sled Charles!!
You can use a rolled up towel, a sock filled with rice etc.

;D Any soft firm surface will work pretty well I was using a paint roller jury rigged to rest the fore stock and gently stabilized  by cradling between thumb and forefinger

Ok guys here you go! This was from 21 yards, still working on the hold, having trouble with the sights, shoots high, can't seem to get it down no matter what. I seem to have it centered, just can't get it down. Am I turning clockwise or counter clockwise to lower the sight? I've tried all and nothing seems to work.

If you are shooting high while aiming on center, then you need to realign your line of sight with the pellet holes.  You would lower the rear sight to achieve this or increase the height of the front sight (some rifles can do this).  Probably counter-clockwise, as the sight is numbered, so counting backwards, I believe.

You'll never really know how good it is 'till you put a scope on it IMHO. Like puttin' a flour sack on a beauty queen. That beauty queen needs a silk dress!

I have a new Hawke ready to mount, just wanted to get her broken first. I have about 200 rounds fired as of now so maybe a couple hundred more and I will mount the AIRMAX.
