Title: so, what exactly is "the tape mod?"
Post by: tweedking on March 28, 2014, 12:44:37 AM
where exactly do you make a "tape mod?"  at what point along the barrel?

nearer the breach at the tight point of the surround (roughly at the end of the fore-stock)? 1" behind the crown? at the muzzle end?

i found that the tight spot is smaller than the end of the barrel by just a touch.

Around the muzzle at the end.  That is where it slides into the hole in the sight assembly.

On mine it took a single wrap of electric tape, some may require more.

You are going to need to remove the barrel shroud. On new 880s there are 3 phillips head screws to remove. All will be closest to the barrel shroud. 2 on the bolt side and one on the bb load side. I forget if it takes a slight tug or a slight lift, but it does not take much resistance and the shroud comes off.
Remove the muzzle from the shroud and test fit to the soda straw barrel. 99.9 % of the time it is a loose fit. Wrap electrical tape, a few wraps to make the muzzle fit tight but not a force fit.

Reverse to put back together. Makes a world of difference.
