Title: 2289 Concept Build with Pump Arm for Cheek Rest??
Post by: josixpack on March 27, 2014, 03:20:56 PM
I've recently purchased the 2289 back backer.  I'm loving the gun so far with no internal mods as of yet.  However I did add the steel breech, a 14.5" barrel, UTG bug buster scope and made a shoulder stock bag for pellets and a cheek rest from pipe insulation wrapped in fake black leather.

Here's what I'm trying to build.  I've ordered a 18" and a 24" barrel plus the breech sleeve and sights from Crosman, just waiting for them to arrive.  Holding off on the pump arm for now.

2289
18" Barrel
Steel Breech
Breech Sleeve from Benjamin Discovery
Rear Sight from Benjamin Discovery
Fiber Optic Front Sight
2289 Forearm grip used as cheek rest.
UTG Bug Buster Scope

I like the way the pump arm used as a cheek rest looks but not sure it will be comfortable or fit.  However I'm sure it could be made to fit with proper tools and some patience.

Here's a Photoshop version of what I'm trying to build.  The scope is just for reference and not the bug buster scope that I have.

that's a great idea, you may want to turn it around so the ridge can't bite you.

What about a cheek rest??  I just noticed I hade"Check" and not "Cheek".

I thought about at that too and I think it looks better.  I turned the 2289 upside down and used the pump arm as a check rest and its not uncomfortable and with a little ingenuity I bet a pad could be made and adhered.

I really like that better, a little weatherstrip adhesive (contact cement) and you would have a pad attached
Or tape it off and use a couple coats of bedliner spray

I was thinking a pad cut to shape, sew a fake leather cover on it and attached with 3M spray adhesive.  I'll have to make a stop at the fabric store to see what they have.  I think you can get pads in different thicknesses.  Wish I would of thought of this when I ordered the barrels and other accessories.  Oh well, I'll order the pump arm today and post some pictures when it's all done.  I hope the barrel sleeve and sights work.  Hopefully I'll find out today if not the first part of next week.

Thanks for the input!

I like your idea, just throwing out my own to you...Bondo is pretty easy to work with and you can shape it anyway you like into a "cheek"piece, then just sand and paint it.. 8)
