Title: WG '88 RWS D-34
Post by: DosTres on March 04, 2014, 06:08:12 PM
I’ve had a West German ’88 RWS Diana-34 in the cabinet since trading for it, other than teaching my daughter to shoot turtle heads when she was young…Now I have a grandson and curious about the gun’s worth and what’s needed to keep in in the same “nail driver” condition it always has been. I never tuned it or did anything but shoot and clean occasionally.

Why tune a nail driver? That's what most of us want,, and you already have..!!

Keep that one in a cabinet and buy a more modern one, "IF", you only want possibly more velocity, because that's all the advantage you'll get...

Good question and maybe it's just a great gun and should just keep it and buy the grandson a Daisy in a few years. Who knows how much the options may change by the time he'll be a shooter. Thanks

If it ain't broke don't fix it.  That model is still in production.  Keep it in the cabinet.  Shoot it and enjoy it as is.  If it's getting too wimpy after all these years you can always replace the tired old spring and perhaps the piston seal.  You could even go whole hog and replace the breech seal if it leaks.  Other than that it should just keep shooting.

Thanks and I agree on the if it "ain't broke" note, fortunately, in spite of a few stock scratches, I took pretty good care of her over the years and no complaints. Can still pop turtle heads and pocket gopher's heads off at 30 yards. Although, from what I've been able to figure out, the D34 is still in production, but not nearly of the QA & QC that took place in the late '80s. I'm a newbie and could be totally off base and if you or any of y"all GTA folks have any input would be great...just for the sake of knowledge and conversation.

Cheers
