Title: Pellet questions
Post by: Whatsquirrel on February 27, 2014, 09:59:51 PM
I'm getting accuracy issues with my prod & it's driving me insane!!! When I first got it & started shooting it is was getting any where from .232-.521 oto sized groups. Now it's hard to get a .600 size groups. I'm about to tear it apart to see I can see anything obvious, but before I do is there anything in pellet washing? I've noticed that if I clean the barrel every 3 clips my accuracy can stay pretty decent. But the barrel seems very dirty. I was getting these kind of groups with benjamin dome pellets. Also I'm on about the third box of these pellets. Can there be any machine issues with the pellets. I don't see anything obvious in the pellet skirts or heads. Also the first 100 c.p.h.p's shoot pretty good but now I have tin that want anything smaller than 2". This thing is driving me crazy please help! All this shooting is done at 15yrds in my shop on a rest.  Thanks guy for any input.

If you give your barrel a good cleaning, you shouldn't have to clean it after every 3 magazines unless the pellets you're using are really dirty. Do the simple things first, make sure the scope rings are tight. Check to see if you're having clipping issues. I would suggest you try different pellets also. Get some H&N FTT 5.53. These pellets give me one ragged hole at 25 yards with my P-rod. I wash my pellets with warm water and Dawn dish detergent and lube them with White Lightning Easy Clean. You can find it at Wally in the bicycle dept. It's a chain lube.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna get some of those pellets & give them a try. I've heard they do work well. I'm gonna go ahead & take the gun apart this weekend & give it good cleaning since I haven't done that since I've gotten it. Thanks again.

When you tear the P-Rod down you might want to polish the bore of the barrel. I don't have a P-Rod but had the same problem you describe with my M-Rod after about 80 to 100 shots but after a good cleaning and polishing the bore with bore polish that problem went away.
