I have a .22 Discovery and Crosman pump and am ready to shoot it for the first time. I cleaned the barrel with weed eater string but wasn’t real thrilled about getting the patch getting tight enough in the barrel ; so, I bought a Crown Saver and cleaned with Goo Gone and then dry patches until clean. At the same time for kicks I also bought Krytech Wax Lube. The two pellets I have are Crosman HP and Crosman Ultra Magnum Domes. I remember reading Tim Mac say that for the Krytech treated pellets to be beneficial you should have a very clean barrel. My question is; is it counterproductive to shoot treated pellets for the break in process? This is as clean as the barrel is ever going to be. However; isn’t the purpose of the break-in to lube the barrel with lead in small amounts to fill little nooks and crannies in the barrel surface? Should I shoot non treated pellets for some time then clean again and then shoot treated? Or am I making this more complicated than it needs to be? Thanks in advance.

I think the jury's still out on lubed pellets. People seem to shoot lubed pellets to get consistency between shots. Feel free to shoot unlubed pellets until the barrel is broken in. You can then clean it again and switch to lubed if you wish. Or you can just keep shooting unlubed. Even with unlubed pellets you don't clean the barrel until accuracy starts to degrade. After that you will probably put fifty to a hundred pellets down the barrel to reseason it.
