Is there a consensus out here about THE man to send an HW97 to for a tuneup...looking for general performance, smoothness, and durability?
Thanks!

My vote would be listen to Scott!!!!

In case you missed the connection, Motorhead is the Scott Joe just recommended. Joe's just prejudiced because Scott does such a fantastic job. What does Joe know? He just lights matches with his guns. They are that accurate!!

Hmmmmmmm did someone say MATCH????? That was lit at 25 yards...in front of 4 GTA witnesses....by a Motörhead touched TX????
Well I just so happen to have a pic!!!

Allow me to elaborate Shuter.
Scott has done a 56, TX, 97, 98 and is doing a Pro Sport for me.
Quick turnaround, meticulous work, excellent communication, very reasonable rates and he will go over rifle from bow to stern.
My 97 is an absolute gem and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you let Scott hook your lady up!!
I am an un paid spokesperson!!!

Thanks, Scott. Do you have a website or PDF or something you can send outlining services, cost, suggestions for the HW97, etc.?

That helps...thanks! Especially the fact that he's done a 97 for you. What did Scott do to your 97?

I had him install a PG2 kit. He tuned the trigger and went over the entire rifle. I can't tell you how smooth cocking and firing she is!! He left no stone un turned and you can feel it!!
Here are some numbers. These were recorded after around 1000 rounds. She is even tighter now!!
97 JSB 8.4. 7.3
Lo 894.8. Lo 947.9
Hi 903.0. Hi 952.9
Avg 899.4. Avg 950.7
ES 8.21. ES 4.93
SD 3.74. SD 2.00
This group was shot at 50 yards....the second was a fly at 30!! She stacks em!!

Nothing sells like results! That 50 yard group is one tiny hole...love the fly splatter! I will pursue this. Thanks much.

I am just a home tuner doing this as a side line Bizz to make some pocket money. While being an active AG'er for near 40 years had always done my own work and learned the craft hands on doing so.
Each job has it's own unique set of perimeters either set forth by Gun needs or persons requirements / wants.
This makes each service request / job priced accordingly.
I can only Roughly Bid needing to inspect and evaluate any used rifle sent in for service before a hard cost # can't be stated ;)
Regards,
Scott

Some other options...
Rob Hawkins - http://www.springguntunes.com/ (http://www.springguntunes.com/)
He did a fine tune on my Beeman R7. Turnaround time was very quick
As previously mentioned, Paul Watts is highly regarded - http://www.springgunning.com/ (http://www.springgunning.com/)

Yes Rob Hawkins is a excellent tuner. He only does the high end stuff but for those out there who want perfection in their air rifles, take em to Rob. I support him and his work exclusively.

"best" well that may or may not even be relivant. Scott can very likely make it suit you just fine.
Paul Watts has a pretty good rep. also a bit of a waiting time (if that matters to you, it would to me and I am thinking Scott's turn around tuime may be pretty good) .
A pic just for kicks of the tunested (thats a word correct?) 97 "I" have ever seen. It wasnt because one did or didnt do exactly what the fellow wanted but rather because it was his personal choice. It first got the full tune from Paul Watts, then was shipped (figure shipping eh?) to David Slade for trigger work, and then sent to Mr. AZ (sorry never can spell his name right) for barrel harmonics work.
Just a wild guess not counting shipping I believe he put well over $600.00 in his "tune" total.

So at least part of the question/answer is what do you want done?
John
Paul Watts has an outstanding reputation. I sent him a new R7 the beginning of March. Paul has been so backed up he has gotten to it yet. I assume I will have it shortly. He basically rebuilds the internals of the rifle. I sent Scott a new Walter LGV and Scott turned it around in a week, week and a half. I'm pleased with Scotts work. Rob H. has a very good rep. and quick turn around. He's prices are about the same as Paul's. It isn't clear to me he does the same level of work to a rifle as Paul does in fitting the pieces and parts. I say this from reading the each web site. I wouldn't hesitate sending a rifle to Scott for tuning. Prices will be reasonable, turn around very fast and Joe's rifles and shooting is proof of the quality of work.

I have been very satisfied with work done by Rob Hawkins and Paul Watts.
Good luck
