Title: Chrony results for my new Benjamin Super Streak
Post by: unoactu on December 26, 2010, 03:01:13 PM
 ;) Hello,

This is my first post on GTA. Last month I picked up an Super Streak .177. I been wanting a accurate rifle to play with in between all my smokeless firearms. I'm a range instructor for the sheriff's office in my area. All us range instructors like to plink on our down time. I wanted to start practicing with pellets. I haven't had a pellet rifle since I was a kid. I've forgotten how much fun they are.

I stumbled onto this forum after getting my new rifle. I wish, I had seen it before I made my purchase. I probably would have gone for Benjamin's NP rifle. Oh well, I'm a springer guy now. After reading information on this site I thought it would best if I purchased a .177 pellet sampler from: http://www.straightshooters.com/straightshooters/sssampler.html (http://www.straightshooters.com/straightshooters/sssampler.html)
to determine what pellet would work the best with my rifle.

On Christmas Eve I tested my rifle indoors (my basement). I could only get a maximum distance of 12 yards. The Chrony & group size results are listed below:

My rifle liked the RWS SuperPoint 8.30gr, Beeman Silver Sting 8.61gr, and Scorpion Lead free Goldenrod 9.50gr.
It did not like the HN Rabbit Magnum ll 15.74gr. This round is too heavy, I only fired 2 rounds and stopped....very squirrely!

I sandbagged my rifle for the test. I found that I would be shooting a tight group when all of sudden a wild round would fly and the tight group would go down the tubes.

I have read the post's in this forum and realized that I have a spring break-in period, so I will most likely get different results after that period. I'm definitely going to get the Turbo Tune/GRT trigger. I will be getting in touch with Ed very soon. My question for the tune job; After the tune is done, is there a break-in period or is it ready to go?

I hope the information above will be useful for some of you. I will do another test after my rifle is tuned. I tried to attach photos to this post, but I could not figure it out. Sorry, I'm not computer savvy :-\

I'm glad to join this forum, I'm learning a lot from here.
Merry Christmas/Happy New Year & God Bless![/list]

First off welcome to the GTA family unoactu happy to have you aboard. Now onto your tune question and yes there will be a break in period after the tune to seat the piston seal and get all cozy so to speak. Ther more lead you run through it the quicker it will break in but some shooters do settle in quicker then others after a tune. When I tune airguns I also clean the barrel so it will need to be re-seasoned which again is down by shooting the heck out of it. :D Ed

Hello JC and Welcome to the GTA forums. As you continue to read and therefore learn about this wonderful sometimes crazy sport/hobby we all enjoy, your interest will likely broaden to the wide world of airguns that exist today. These things are kind'a like potato chips...it's hard to stop with just one. If you get Ed to tune your rifle and install the best aftermarket trigger in your rifle, you'll get back a gun that you'll enjoy even more than you now do. Ed knows a thing or two about them airguns. When you get your rifle back, invest the time to shoot it a couple thousand times. You'll learn a lot over those shooting sessions about what works best and your rifle will break in and be at it's peak performance for a long time. Stay in touch and post what results you're getting. If you have problems or questions someone here can help you. Happy shooting.

I'll give a followup report after its done.
