Title: Air Arms Pro Sport
Post by: gene_sc on December 26, 2010, 11:04:03 AM
One of my most accurate springers is the AA Pro Sport. I have many different makes and models of springers including some fantastic Chinese air gun but the Pro Sport is the pretiest one of all...:) One very accurate springer. I have her out on loan at this time and maybe David would chime in on his opinion of the Pro Sport.

Here is a fantastic video showing the accuracy out to 60 yards with a Pro Sport.

Gotta luv the PS.  One of the best engineered springers on the market.  And it don't look too bad either  ;)

how does it compare to the tx200? it seems like it might be tuff to cock with such a short lever

LOL David.... And Tom the cocking lever not any different than TX other than it is just hidden and cocks from the other direction. Actually more meat to wrap your hand around...:)

so you cock it back to front? can you post a pic of the underside of it so i see what your talking about please. it seems like an unusual setup. and how does it compare to the tx accuracy wise?

Cocking lever pulls down from front of fore stock. I find it a bit more accurate shooting than my TX. It is just the difference in shouldering it for me. Pro Sport a bit more to my likeing is all. Both guns exceptionally accurate.

I like the TX over the PS all day due to the sharp or squared edges of the lever on the PS. Also from the shorter cocking rod I did find it slightly harder to cock. Both guns are beauties but I would buy a TX before a PS. Just my preference. My knowledge comes from a friend that loaned me both guns last winter. It was very hard to give either gun back.

From what it appears... the TX and Pro Sport use the same barrels, same springs, seals etc... just different cocking system.  the Parts listings are the same for internals.  No Bear Trap safety tho???

Eric

Not true, exactly.  AirArms actually made six of the ProSport rifles as a LH prototpye.  I have one in .22

What is the cocking effort like with the shorter cocking lever?

TCups,

I can't just visit straightshooters, pyramyd or any other retailer/importer and push the button to get a lefty Pro Sport as a regular retail choice.

Sorry buddy, prototypes don't count.  Besides, even if available, I bet they come with a hefty premium!!

Please, prove me wrong and offer me a great deal!!  I'll keep an eye out for your email.  ;D

Sorry Eric.  I just had to stick that in.  Gene found this one for me a couple of years ago.  A west coast dealer had bought all 6 of the lefty stocked rifles -- three in .177 and three in .22.  This was the last of the 6 the dealer had left.  Not for sale, sorry.  Might be able to find someone to duplicate the stock for  you.  The action is the same as the RH model.

TCups,

Not wanting to beat this dead horse any deader, I'll pass on the custom stock suggestion.

I forgive you for teasing me with your rare, LH ProSport  ;)

Eric

Tommy, that sure is one gorgeous Pro Sport.
Since it is one of only six, I have a pretty good idea its appraisal value will eventually climb significantly as time goes by.

the ps are great looking guns. but if they have the same internals, why do they have a higher fps rating than the tx?

WOW!!! I already loved the ProSport, but didn't even know of Si Pitteway. I watched all of his videos and subscribed to his channel. Am I overstating? but I think most of us could learn a thing or two from Si. He could really help new members with all the basic shooting science. I'm using the Chairgun Pro now since I watched his videos. I have my backyard flagged off with flags every ten yards out to 50. Using the SR 12 reticle on my Hawke 6-24X56, I was able to fine tune my accuracy. My groups have shrunk 50%. I'm shooting 18.1 grain JSB heavies at 877 fps out of my Daystate MK4. The most interesting aspect of this PCP is my 1" kill zone is maintained using the primary cross of the reticle from 10.4 yards to 48.1 Yards. Dont need to change unless I want a smaller kill zone than 1". Needless to say, if you are using an SR6, SR12 or Mil-Dot, the Hawke Chairgun Pro is the sweetest thing I've seen in a long, long time. Especially with a 14 fpe springer. I know the shot cycle is calmer on a 14 fpe rifle, but I believe Si has proven once and for all that a .177 with proper shot placement is plenty adequate for "dispatching small vermin". Now If I can just get a Pro Sport in .22, I'd be extatic.

That Si is fun to watch. Great videos. The air arms pro sport is gorgeous and deadly accurate. I struggled between that rifle and my choice of the HW95 Luxus. I was simply afraid of the extra weight. I am tickled with the HW95, and do not regret the choice at all. But I still lust over the other woman. Curse those roaming eyes!

Tom, the answer why the PS has a listed higher velocity over the TX is called marketing. You are already familiar with the concept due to most manufacturers velocity claims. As has been stated these models have the same components but a different cocking mechanism. I have shot Gene's Pro Sport and can attest to it being everything you'd ever want in an Air Arms springer. Velocity differences will vary from individual to individual model or as some may say,YMMV.

i just watched the vid. and it didnt show him cocking the gun. i assume its a 12ft gun because of his accent. im sorry but i dont see it over the tx

so yall are saying the pro is a better shooter than the tx?

They should be identicle other than looks and cocking linkage... if you look at the FT Scene, you see more TX's than PS. but there nearly identicle internally, same barrels and such.  You have aTX tom, i wouldn't worry much about the prosport being better or worse, its virtually identicle.  if you want another rifle in that price range, get a HW97K...
