Title: XL question
Post by: codytwoeyes on February 17, 2014, 09:31:42 PM
My XL 22  is now some three years old. it has never failed shoots like a hammer. its a true hunter. not long ago I bought a crony. now we all know 1200 fps just aint going to happen. mine is shooting av 780 this seems a bit low. what kind of fps are ya,ll getting. This is with 14.3 gr Crossman's.? I will be converting it into a 25 cal if I can bring the power threshold up. I admit to a bit of confusion on PA Paul has a vid with the 25 XL shooting well over 750 fps. so I don't think mine will even come close shooting the way it is now any ideas?--just went back to see the vids I was way off on fps his were 530 31 gr 710 with 22 gr. But I still think it should be a bit hotter than 780s??

my Titan .22 (non XL) with a fresh seal was right up on 750fps i forget get which pellets were used in the after testing but in the before testing the numbers between the pellets used for after testing and the CPHPS were with 10fps with the CPHPS having a much larger shot to shot variation and I was told I could reasonably expect another 30 or so once the seal had broken in...I would expect 70-100fps more minimum from an XL power plant

My xl1100 with 14.3 grain average 917fps.

Yours may be low, but the more important question how consistent is it? Either the seal or piston may be a bit worn but I would trade speed for accuracy any day…especially with a magnum. Most of the XL's shoot around 850fps out of the box in .22 cal.- tuned they normally gain 50-60 fps. after break-in. I would wait to see if the situation worsens before I made the decision to tear it down for a tune. JMO

A bit low for sure. Mine slings 14.3gr at 925-935fps. Cranking out between 27-28fpe depending on the lead. I'd say it's time for a tear down, debur, Macarri seal and good lube.

I'm thinking that my xl 1100 has a weakish ram, not entirely sure I did a full tune with new seal and deburr  jm seal washers bushing moly crosshatch but the only pellet I can get to push 900(more like 880ish) is a crosman destroyer, don't get me wrong it's consistent as all *(&^ and is still putting down 25fpe with kodiak 21gr(730ish avg).  I'm happy with my accuracy and all I just like to see high numbers so I can squeeze every pound of energy out that I can :)

As of today its shooting 837 to 845 so it is shooting consistently its just low as to what everyone else is showing as average. So new question. I am at sea level-maybe 50 to 100 feet above here in Daphne were I live. Do any of you know how that is factoring in my fps. In thinking about this I don't see that producing that much drag but then that is why I am asking.???

That is a little low, but your elevation probably isn't the cause, probably needs a freshening up like someone said seal, spring, debur and lube.....

FPS goes down as you go higher in elevation, the air get thinner...
