Title: (video added) R&L shroud on airforce talonp.........better than i hoped for!!!
Post by: starlingassassin on February 15, 2014, 12:46:10 AM
finally decided to get an R&L shroud for my talonp,

couldnt decide between the shorty shroud (6") or the longer one (12")

but you can never be too quiet so i decided on the longer version :)

i gotta say...............WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

im working on a comparison video to show how good it works,
but due to how video cameras cancel noise and the howling wind we had today,
it does not do the shroud justice like hearing it in person does!

stay tuned  8)

Nice video and wow what a difference.  I can only imagine what it sounds like in person.  I'm thinking of getting either a TalonP/Escape or Condor and was looking at the R&L shroud.  My questions are answered ;D

I put an R&L shroud on my .25 condor with 24 inch barrel and a heavy  hammer spring and with the power level of 06 it was only 64db on an android tablet app, before it sounded like a .22 pb.

it was pretty mind blowing the first time i put it on and pulled the trigger  ;D

ive heard people on other forums say that the R&L shrouds are heavy,
but thats not the case at all.
a few ounces at most including the barrel bushing. (aircraft aluminum)

i wasnt even sure it was inside the box when it was delivered because it was so light LOL

also,i cant give enough praise about the way it attaches using the included threaded barrel bushing,

its completely rock solid with zero play or movement.

i definitely wont be worried about bumping it on something,
and i can quickly screw off the shroud so the gun fits in its case,
and screw it back on without worrying about alignment or any change in point of impact,a HUGE plus for me.

the difference is like night and day in person,
and as i said in the video the camera cant nearly capture the difference because it tries to equalize the sound.

but on the video you can hear the echo when its fired without the shroud,
and no echo with just a small "pfffffff" with it attached.

now my talonp is quieter than my marauder  ;D LOL

It get's better in time too, once that shroud settles in and you collect enough lead in the right places, it will get quieter then that! I've got my Condor .25 spitting out baracuda 31gr @ 900-1050 fps and it's quieter then my Benjamin Marauder .25 synthetic spitting out JSB Kings 25gr @ 830-860 fps.
I got mine early 2012 and it came with a plastic barrel alignment cap but now they come with a aluminum ones.

Worth every penny!

I would drill four to six small holes (3/64) or so in the shroud, about a half inch in front of the threads at the barrel bushing end to help release some air to the back of the shroud, top, bottom, left and right side of the shroud, just four to six small holes, use blue painters tape to mark your holes and to protect your shroud from scratches.

Good buy!

Ordering the shorty for the TalonP is obvious, but what do you order to get the longer one?

Good bye echos!!

i called r&l to ask them that very question before i ordered mine,
because i didnt really want the shorty,
i wanted the quietest one i could get.

if you pull up the airforce shrouds on r&l's site, there are selections you can click,

where is says "indicate which caliber you have" .25cal for the talonp obviously lol

and then where it says "select shroud you need" click on  "talon W/12" barrel" thats the long one.

the P is just a talon frame with a 12" barrel  (besides the smaller tank and hotter direct flow valve)

i have to say,
the threaded bushing for the shroud attachment is amazing!

you can take it off and on without any shift in POI,
which is great because i have mine in a small case that wont let it fit with the shroud attached.

and if youre wondering,
the long (8 baffle) model only adds 10" to the overall length,
since it slides into the frame a few inches to attach to the threaded barrel bushing.

yep, that is the correct dot placement for the long shroud for the P :)

seriously,if you get one,

video yourself the first time you shoot it with it on so you will have something to laugh at later :) LOL

shoot one with it off then screw it on and shoot one,you will probably burst out laughing at how quiet it is,i know i did :)

Being a pessimist I will wait until I have my TalonP in my hands before I order accessories, but...
...thanks to you I know what and where and how.

A couple of stocks, a condor tank and a CO2 adaptor planned.

just an FYI,

the condor tank and valve will give reduced velocities with the 12" barrel,

and the talonp valve wont fit in the condor tank.

to be judged first-hand, unless you know a good basis for rejecting it.

well, for one its a different valve internally,
the P allows for more airflow, which translates to more velocity in the 12" barrel.

i havent tried it myself, but do know there will be a measurable loss in velocity (about 150fps)

ill look for the numbers i saw for the condor with 12" barrel and post them.
