Title: Weihrauch HW30S Deluxe
Post by: oldwolf on February 09, 2014, 09:06:51 AM
Can’t decide if I want to bite into a PCP just yet, but in the meantime I do know I want a HW30S in .177. Straight Shooters has the Weihrauch (pronounced Wall-Rock ?) HW30S Deluxe in inventory, and I admit I like the nicer stock enough to spend the extra money.

The low noise, recoil and great Rekord trigger I find very attractive. Does the 30S have a lesser variation of the Rekord trigger? I read somewhere that the one on the HW50 and up is a better version? Any truth to that?

Also have read about the delrin mod that sometimes must be made to the 30. That seems odd to me that it is even necessary to do. You would think the factory would correct this if it is indeed a design idiosyncrasy.

I’d appreciate any tips and comments on this rifle before I order one…Thanks!

the trigger is the same as the standard rekord unit, and yes some rifles need the cocking arm insert due to the way the 2 piece arm works, it causes the arm to rub the compression tube which cut into the tube! :o :P

I just got my new HW30 one week ago.  Yes it has the same Rekord trigger as my R11.  Mine cocks just fine with no sign of galling, therefore no insert for mine.

That's good to hear that yours is "gall" free...also that the trigger is the same.

I could get a Beeman for about the same price, but I like having those adjustable sights.

After years of shooting only springers, I recently tried a Discovery.  Although a great value and accurate, the PCP fill routine just isn't for me.  Pumping gets old fast and I do not want the expense and hassle of a more extensive tank/compressor setup.

Cock, shoot, repeat is the way to go.

I too just ordered another hw30s in .177 from SS for my sons to shoot.

It's "Vy-raw".  Got mine from aoa in march and it's awesome. put a williams peep w/ target apt. on it and with H&N PistolMatch it makes basically one hole at 50ft.  Mine has no sign of galling either.

The HW30 25and 50 have the Perfekt trigger. The "S" after the model number designates the Rekord trigger.

I think you are correct.

The HW30 25and 50 have the Perfekt trigger. The "S" after the model number designates the Rekord trigger.

The HW30S models that are shipping now are marked HW30. However, they do have the Rekord trigger and the box is marked HW30S.

maccari kit+ultimox+deburr+cocking insert= gracious  :o

I have just vortek'd my R7 after running the factory setup for 2000 shots--and still smelling some dieseling now and then!!  I used Ultimox liberally on the seal with moly on the metal rub points elsewhere and a good de-bur and crosshatch(there was none from the factory)and also the cocking insert too.  No dieseling since then, accuracy is great.  After 50 or 60 shots I am getting approx 670 fps with CPHP.

I am curious what velocity the JM kit gives--please let us know!!

I got the HW30S. Shoots very nice and the trigger is just simply amazing. So far RWS Superdomes seem to be the best match for the rifle.

Ordered the Sun Optics scope rings and a Hawke 4-12x40 for it. Today I am going to put a Williams receiver sight for use until the scope gets here. ;D

What does the "Deluxe" get you for the extra $$?   Is it checking on the beech stock or WALNUT checkered stock?   I do love a nice piece of walnut on my rifles!!!

You get a 'walnut stained' stock with checkering.  I did the ScratchX/Johnson Wax treatment on mine and on my R7.  They are now one handsome pair of Gernan brothers.  I get a lot more enjoyment out of the $42 extra I spent on my 'deluxe' stock on my HW30S than I do from the $90 I spent last week to get Mrs. Mailman's Shih Tzu's out of the dog grooming shop.  Just sayin'...................the Mailman

My HW30S and HW50S both have the fantastic Rekord trigger.  It is a fine trigger. Hope you enjoy yours.

LOL now that's a real man's perspective!  Although a $25 investment in roses may return a $300 rifle!

Cock, shoot, repeat is the way to go.

I could not agree more.  I too was very tempted to go PCP but the overhead of filling them tracking shot counts and understanding their power/pressure curves seemed like too much work.  Sometimes I have only time to take 20 shots in my back yard - other times I can shoot a hundred or more.  Cock, shoot, repeat is the best option for me too!

Thanks Mailman!   Having a rifle that is also pleasing to look at is important.   When Mrs. Riflemann is away, the terror-e-or dog gets the scissor theatment so as to put off the groomer bill till later.  Try it, it works for me.

Well take this opinion/advice etc (if you want) The average wife has a memory recall program that would shame a herd (large) of elephants known for memory recall abilities.

Be very careful cause things done now may be brought up later again and again and again. But it's just a warning for something that may or not happen in the future. I was young and very arrogant and even had an ego (that disappeared) when I reached 70 or there abouts.

That's not one Shih Tzu, it's THREE Shih Tzu's!!!  And they go every six weeks like clockwork to get their hair done.  I've got two of them in my lap as we speak!  The dogs (and a 22 lb black cat) are Mrs. Mailman's hobby.  Things with triggers are my hobby.   She has some beautiful doggies and I got LOTS of beautiful guns.  My birthday is next month (65!!) and my 90 yr old mother said to get myself something nice with her plastic.  I'm thinking of holding out for a HW50S in .22.  I'll let Mrs. Mailman get me the scope & mounts.

Geez!  I'm a lucky guy!!!.........................the Mailman

Actually Mom has always been, shall we say, a handful.  But in her late twilight years she's mellowed out and gotten generous to a fault.  A couple years back she went for a 20 ga. Rizzini SxS shotgun for my BD.

I'll bet you can appreciate this part, Joe.  Her grandfather, Vito, came over from Calabria in the early 1880's before Ellis Island kept records..........................the Mailman

Oh can I Jeff!!! My grandfather came over from Florence with nothing, learned the language and spoke with NO accent in a year!! Taught me how to shoot pool and guns at 6 years old!! I still do both religiously.

I was leaning on buying a couple of Hatsan air rifles.  After reading bad reports here about them the Weihrauch HW 30S and 50S sure look good.  Fewer gray hairs and a lot more fun.  Thanks for all the information people. Shoot safe.

I just have to chime in here. I have both a Weirauch HW50S and a HW30S deluxe professionally tuned by Mike Sheron of Piedmontncairgunner. They are so fun to shoot! I have been ignoring my pcp's lately because I have had such a good time shooting these two spinngers. Had I discovered this sooner, I could have saved a lot of money on pcp equipment. These guns make me look like an accomplished shooter. Even my wife loves to shoot them; most of the time outshooting me! You can't go wrong with the Weirauch guns and consider getting them tuned. Just makes a great gun better.

When this thread started I just had an HW 50s, since then I am now the proud owner of an HW30s Deluxe. Could not be happier with a gun's performance.
